150 characters, counting letters, spaces, line breaks and emoji. Every bio on these pages shows its count. Instagram's own counter can count some emoji as two characters, so a bio right at the limit may need a small trim.

How do I add line breaks to my bio?

Type them into the Bio field under Edit profile, the same way you start a new line in a message. Bios copied from these pages keep their line breaks when you paste them.

Can I put a link in my Instagram bio?

Yes, in the Links section of Edit profile rather than in the bio text, where a web address won't be clickable. A bio can then point to it with a short line such as “Menu below” or “Free guide in my links”.
