Instagram bios for small businesses

Tips for your bio
When a batch sells out, swap one line of the bio for the restock date, such as “Next batch: 14 March”. People stop messaging to ask, and they know when to come back.
If you trade at markets, keep the dates in a highlight called Markets and point the bio to it. Market days change too often to live in the bio itself.
Made to order? Put the lead time in the bio, like “Made to order, ships in 2 weeks”. It answers “when will it arrive?” before anyone asks, and heads off complaints from people who expected it the next day.
Pick “I” or “we” and stick to it. A one-person shop that talks about “our team” sounds odd when the same person answers every message, and plenty of buyers like knowing it's you.
Pin a Reel of your workspace: the kitchen table, the kiln, the packing station. Pinned posts sit at the top of your grid, so a new visitor sees that a real person makes the things in your bio.
Name your town even if most orders ship. Local buyers learn they might be able to collect, and people who like buying from makers nearby get a reason to choose you.
Questions people ask
What should a small business put in its Instagram bio?
What you sell, where you are or where you ship, and how to order, in that order. Add one human detail if there's room, such as who makes everything or the town it's made in. If you're a one-person shop, saying so is a selling point, not something to hide.
Should my bio use my name or my shop's name?
Make the shop name your username, and put it in the name field next to what you sell, so it matches your labels and packaging. Then use your first name in the bio itself, as in “Hi, I'm Priya, I make everything here”. Buyers get a shop they can search for and a person they can talk to.
Do I need a business account for my shop?
Not to post, but a professional account (Business or Creator) adds contact buttons, a category label under your name and insights on who sees your posts, and switching is free. One catch: professional accounts can't be private, so keep a personal account for anything customers shouldn't see.
How do I write a bio for a home-based business?
Name the area you serve and how people get their order, and leave your street out. “Made to order in North Leeds | Local pickup or UK shipping” tells a buyer straight away whether you suit them. Send the exact pickup address by message once an order is confirmed.
How is a small business bio different from a big brand's?
Mostly in voice. A small business can sound like a person, because it usually is one, and naming the maker, the town or the spare room it started in gives buyers a reason to pick you over a chain. Keep the practical lines, what you sell and how to order, as plain as any brand's.
