Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. A short line you believe
  2. Who you are or what you post
  3. One detail: a place, a habit, a pet
  4. A next step, if you want one

Worked example

Miles are made of mornings. Runner, slow but stubborn 🏃 Training notes every Monday

Tips for your bio

  1. Check before you credit. Lines shared online with a famous name attached are often things that person never said; if you can't find where a quote first appeared, leave the name off or pick another line.

  2. A quote shows your mood but not what you post. Add one plain line under it, such as “film photos from Lisbon” or “home workouts and meal prep,” so visitors know why to follow.

  3. Shorter lines land harder. If your quote runs past about 60 characters, try cutting the first half; most lines get stronger when they start closer to the point.

  4. Let the quote match the grid. A line about slow mornings suits a feed of coffee and window light; next to gym videos it reads like a joke you didn't mean to make.

  5. Change the quote, keep the rest. Swap in a new line when your focus changes, but leave your name, what you do and your link where they are, so returning visitors can find them.

  6. Song lyrics and lines from films and books are someone else's words, and fans spot a misquote quickly. If you want that feeling in your bio, write your own version of it.

Questions people ask

Can I use a famous quote in my Instagram bio?

Many people do. Put the person's name after it, and check that they really said it, because quotes often circulate with the wrong name attached. Every line on this page is original, so you can use any of them without a credit.

Should I put quotation marks around my bio quote?

Use them when you're quoting someone else, with their name after the line. Leave them off when the line is your own motto, because quotation marks make readers look for an author. If you do use them, curly “ ” marks look neater than straight ones.

Where should a quote go in my bio?

First or last. At the top it sets the mood before anything else. At the bottom it works as a sign-off after the practical lines: who you are, what you post and how to reach you. In the middle it splits up the details people came for.

How do I pick a quote that fits me?

Start from what you post, not from what sounds deep. A runner might pick a line about early miles, a baker one about patience. Read it next to your last nine posts; if it fits them, it fits the profile.

What makes a good short quote for a bio?

Five words or fewer, one idea and no filler. “Small joys count double,” “Start small. Stay stubborn.” and “Peace over performance.” all leave plenty of room for your name, what you do and a link.
