Bios for dancers on Instagram

Your videos already show how you move. The bio has to say the rest: what style you dance, where you dance it, and how someone can take your class or book you. These bios are sorted by style and by job, from pre-pro students and social dancers to studio owners and wedding choreographers.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. Your style or styles
  2. Where you dance or teach
  3. A detail only dancers would get
  4. What people can learn or book
  5. The next step

Tips for your bio

  1. Name your style, not just “dancer”. Someone hunting for a Kathak teacher or a breaking class searches for the style, so put it in your name field as well, as in “Asha | Kathak, Pune”.

  2. Choose a profile photo where your face is clear, even if it's a dance shot. At the size Instagram shows it, a full-body leap turns into a tiny blur; a close crop of the same photo still says dancer.

  3. Pin a performance clip, a class or tutorial Reel and a post with your timetable or booking details. That answers the three things new visitors want to know: can you dance, can you teach, and when.

  4. If your videos depend on popular songs, check the audio library before switching to a Business account. Business accounts can have a smaller choice of licensed music for Reels than Creator accounts.

  5. Credit choreography in captions. When you dance someone else's routine, tag them there; keep the bio for your own work, so nobody mistakes a cover for your choreography.

  6. Studios: keep class times out of the bio and in a highlight or behind the link, then update them each term. A bio that says “Thursday 6pm” goes wrong the first time a class moves.

Questions people ask

What should a dancer put in their Instagram bio?

Your style, where you dance or teach, and one next step: watch a showreel, take a class or book you. Add a detail that sounds like you, such as the stage you're training for or the turn you still can't land.

How do I write a bio for a dance studio?

Lead with the styles and ages you teach, then the area, then the easiest first step, such as a trial class or the timetable link. Parents scan for ages and times first, so the studio's story can wait for a highlight.

Should I mention my training or my company in my bio?

A short line helps if bookers or schools are your audience, for example the company you dance with, tagged with an @. Full training histories fit better in a highlight or on a website, where there's room for dates and details.

Do I need a separate account for dance?

Not always. If most of what you post is dance, make your account professional and keep going. If your personal account is mostly friends and family, a separate dance account keeps classes, videos and bookings in one tidy place.

What should a choreographer's bio say?

The kind of work you choreograph (stage, music videos, weddings, sangeets, competitions), where you're based or will travel, and how to see your reel. Then the contact route: the email button, your agent or a word to DM.
