Instagram bio ideas

Instagram bios for teachers

A teacher bio can be warm, funny or practical, as long as it says what you teach and who you are outside the classroom. Copy any bio below, change the subject and grade, and read the privacy tips before you add your school.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. Your subject or grade
  2. One real detail about your classroom
  3. A personality line
  4. A next step if you share resources

Tips for your bio

  1. Check your school’s social media policy before naming the school, the class or the town. Many schools ask staff to keep personal accounts separate, and a bio that shows where you work makes it easy to find you.

  2. Never post a pupil’s face, name or work without the permission your school requires. A private account for friends is fine, but a teacher-creator account should show materials, not children.

  3. A teacher account that shares resources should say the subject and age range in the first line. Parents and other teachers search for “Year 2 phonics”, not “teacher life”.

  4. Use highlights for “Free printables”, “Classroom setup” and “Behaviour tips”. Teachers who follow you will save and come back to those more than to your feed.

  5. If you sell resources in a shop, link one page and say what is on it. “Shop my units” is clearer than a bare link, and you can tell people to comment a word on a Reel to get a free sample.

Questions people ask

What should a teacher put in an Instagram bio?

Your subject or year group, a line that shows your teaching style and one detail about life outside school. If you share resources, add what is free and where to get it. Leave out the school name and any student details.

Can teachers put their school in their bio?

Check your school’s policy first. Many schools ask staff not to name the school on personal profiles, because it identifies pupils and makes it easy for strangers to find you. A teacher-creator account can say the country or city instead.

How do I write a funny teacher bio?

Joke about the shared experience, such as marking, tea, whiteboard pens or the summer holidays, and keep it kind. Avoid jokes at the expense of pupils or parents, because a screenshot of your bio can travel further than you expect.

Should I use Mr, Mrs or Ms in my username?

Use it if you want parents or colleagues to find you by title, and keep it consistent across posts. If you want a more personal account, a first name and subject work, such as maya.teaches.maths. Usernames can only use letters, numbers, periods and underscores.

How long can an Instagram bio be?

150 characters, and spaces, emoji and line breaks all count. Each bio on this page fits, with the character count shown beside it.
