Business bios that say what to do next
A business bio on Instagram has one job: tell a visitor what you sell, who it's for or where you are, and what to do next. The examples below are grouped by that job, from plain one-line descriptions to bios with opening hours, a DM keyword, a free offer or a launch date. Swap in your details and keep the next step on its own line.

Write your own
A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.
- What you sell, in plain words
- Who it's for or where you are
- One detail people can check
- The next step: a DM word, the link or a visit
Worked example
Soy candles, poured by hand 🕯️ Shipping across [country] Small batches since [year] DM SCENT for the scent list

Each part becomes a line of your bio. Nothing you type is uploaded.

Tips for your bio
Use the name field for search. It's the bold line above your bio and one of the fields Instagram search matches, so “Rosa's Bakery | Cakes [city]” can turn up in more searches than “Rosa's” alone.
On a professional account, show your category label so “Bakery” or “Plumber” appears under your name. The bio can then spend its 150 characters on the offer instead of repeating what you are.
Add your email, phone number or address in the contact options rather than typing them into the bio. Instagram can show them as buttons, which keeps the bio free for the offer.
Give proof people can check instead of claims they can't. “Family-run since 2014”, “Made in [city]” or “Reviews in highlights” read as honest; “best in town” reads as an ad that nobody can verify.
If the bio asks people to DM a word, answer quickly and every time. A bio that promises a price list and then leaves people waiting does more harm than having no keyword at all.
You can add up to five links, but the profile shows the first one, so put the link most visitors need there: the shop, the booking page or the menu.
Questions people ask
What should a business write in its Instagram bio?
Four things: what you sell, who it's for or where you are, one detail people can trust, and the next step. If you only have room for two, keep what you sell and the next step; the rest can live in highlights and pinned posts.
Should I put prices in my bio?
Usually not the full list, because prices change and the bio is small. A starting price, such as “Cakes from [price]”, can save a round of DMs. For the full list, use a DM keyword or the link.
Do emoji belong in a business bio?
A few, where they replace words: 📍 before an address, 🕐 before opening hours, 🚚 before delivery details. They make lines quick to scan. Long strings of emoji hide the information people came for.
Can I add a hashtag or another account to my bio?
Yes, both are tappable: a hashtag opens that hashtag's page and an @mention opens the account. A sister shop, your team's account or a branded hashtag for customer photos can earn a place; random hashtags just add clutter.
How often should a business update its bio?
Whenever something in it stops being true: holiday hours, a sold-out offer, a new address or a new link. People act on what the bio says, so an outdated line costs you more than a plain one.
