Instagram bios for tattoo artists

Clients choose a tattoo artist by their work, then check the bio for three things: your style, where you are and whether you are taking bookings. Here are original bios for artists and small studios, with a formula and tips on booking status, deposits and flash.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. Your name and your craft
  2. Your style in a few words
  3. Where you work
  4. Booking status and how to enquire

Worked example

Mara | Tattoos in Leeds ✒️ Fine line and botanicals Books open 1 March DM IDEA with your concept

Tips for your bio

  1. Put your style and city in the name field, for example 'Mara | Fine Line Tattoo Leeds'. People look for an artist by place and style, and Instagram search leans on that line.

  2. Say whether books are open or closed, and change it when it changes. An out-of-date bio brings enquiries you cannot take, and a clear 'closed until June' saves everyone time.

  3. Name the booking route in one line: a form, a DM word or an email. Clients with a vague idea send long messages, and a form asks for size, placement and references up front.

  4. Mention the deposit, not the price. Most tattoos are quoted by size and detail, but a deposit policy can sit in the bio or highlights and filters out time-wasters politely.

  5. Keep healed photos in a highlight. New work always looks good, and a healed piece shows what a client will actually walk away with.

  6. Check what your local rules ask studios or artists to display, and say only what is true of you. Skip claims about hygiene or credentials you cannot back up.

Questions people ask

What should a tattoo artist put in their Instagram bio?

Your style, your city and your booking status. Add how to enquire, such as a form link or a DM word. Keep the rest for highlights: aftercare, deposits and a healed gallery.

Should my bio say if my books are open?

Yes. It is the first thing a potential client wants to know. If your status changes often, keep it short ('Books open [month]') and update it each time, or pin a post with the dates.

How do I stop endless 'how much?' messages?

Say in the bio that prices depend on size and detail, and point to a booking form. A DM keyword such as 'DM IDEA' can also be answered automatically with the questions you need before quoting.

Can a studio use these bios?

Yes. Swap 'my' for 'our', list the studio's name and hours, and name the artists in a highlight or the link page rather than the bio.

Is it better to show a location or stay vague?

Name the city or area. Clients want to know if they can reach you, and it helps people searching locally. Leave the full address for the booking confirmation if you work privately.
