Instagram bios for makeup artists

A makeup artist's Instagram bio should name the kind of makeup you do (bridal, soft glam, editorial or special effects), where you're based and how far you'll travel, and how a client checks a date. These 50+ bios cover weddings, shoots and stage work, skin and eye specialties, kit hygiene, lessons and new artists, with a formula and tips for the profile around them.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. The makeup you do
  2. Where you're based and will travel
  3. Who you're especially good with
  4. How to check a date

Worked example

Soft glam and bridal makeup 💄 Leicester, travelling UK-wide All skin tones, mature skin welcome DM BRIDAL with your date and venue

Tips for your bio

  1. Spell out “makeup artist” in the name field, with your city: “Priya | Makeup artist Leicester”. MUA is everyday shorthand in the industry, but a bride searching Instagram for someone near her venue is more likely to type the full words.

  2. Say where you'll travel, not only where you live. Wedding mornings usually happen near the venue, so “Leicester, covering the Midlands and destination weddings” answers a couple's first question before they message.

  3. A short hygiene line, such as “single-use mascara wands” or “brushes cleaned between clients”, answers a worry plenty of clients have and few ask about. It costs a few characters and says a lot about how you work.

  4. Show the range your bio claims. If it says deep skin tones, mature skin or hooded eyes, the first rows of your grid should include those faces in daylight, because clients look for proof that you've done a face like theirs before.

  5. Keep prices, packages and the deposit policy in highlights (Bridal, Prices, Reviews, Hygiene) and let the bio point to them. A bridal quote depends on party size, start time and travel, so one figure in the bio would mislead more people than it helps.

  6. “Unfiltered” or “no edits” in a bio is a promise every post has to keep. Clients compare your photos with their own mirror after the appointment, so be exact about what's edited and what isn't.

Questions people ask

What should a makeup artist put in their Instagram bio?

The makeup you do, where you're based, how far you travel and how to check a date. Add a specialty if you have one, such as South Asian bridal, mature skin or SFX. It's the detail that makes a client choose you from a long list of accounts that all say “MUA”.

Should I write MUA or makeup artist?

Both, in different places. Put the full words in the name field, where Instagram search reads them, and use MUA in the bio when space is tight. Brides, parents booking prom makeup and corporate clients don't always know the abbreviation.

Where should my bridal prices go?

In a highlight or on your booking page: a starting price for the bride and for each extra face, plus travel and early-start fees. Final quotes depend on the date, party size and location, so use the bio to point people to the details.

How do I write a bio as a makeup student or a new artist?

Be upfront, and turn it into an offer: “Makeup student building my portfolio, free looks for model calls” or “Newly qualified, portfolio rates”. Clients who book at those rates expect a newer artist, and every booking gives you work for the grid.

Should I list the products in my kit?

Not in the bio. Product names eat characters and go out of date as your kit changes. If followers ask often, keep a Kit highlight or send the list when someone comments a keyword, and leave the bio for what you do and how to book.
