Bookstagram bios for book lovers

A bookstagram bio tells readers what you read, how you review and how to work with you. These original bios cover cosy readers, genre fans, funny TBR confessions and reviewers open to collabs, plus a formula and tips for the account itself.

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  2. How you review: honest, spoiler-free, cosy
  3. A personality line or TBR joke
  4. How to collab or join, if you want to

Tips for your bio

  1. Put 'books' or 'reader' in the name field, as in 'Maya | Books'. People search for bookstagram accounts by what they read, and that line is what Instagram weighs most.

  2. If you accept review copies, say so in the bio and say how to ask. Without that step, publishers and authors cannot tell whether you take requests.

  3. Say what you won't review as well as what you will. 'No horror, no self-published' saves you endless DMs and tells the right people to get in touch.

  4. Disclose gifted books, free copies and paid collabs on the post itself, and in the language your country's advertising rules expect. A tag such as #ad is the usual minimum, but check the rules where you live.

  5. Add a highlight called 'Reading now' and another for 'Currently reviewing'. It keeps the bio free of titles that change every week.

Questions people ask

What should I put in a bookstagram bio?

What you read (genre or mood), how you review, one personality line and, if you take them, how to ask about collabs. Keep the bio simple and let your shelfies show the rest.

How do I tell publishers I accept review copies?

Say so directly: 'Open to review requests, email in the contact button'. Add the genres you read, and say whether you accept ebooks. A clear line saves time for you and for them.

Should I name the books I'm reading in my bio?

It dates quickly, so it is easier to keep that in a highlight or a pinned post. A bio line about what you love, such as a genre or a theme, will stay true for much longer.

Do I need a professional account for bookstagram?

Not required, but a Creator account adds a contact button for emails and gives you insights into who engages with which posts. Both are useful if you take collabs or review requests.

How long can a bookstagram bio be?

150 characters, including spaces, emoji and line breaks. Every bio on this page fits, and the count beside each one shows the exact length.
