Tips for your bio

  1. Write your name in English letters in the name field, such as “Riya Sharma | Indore”, and keep the Devanagari for the bio. Someone who searches “Riya” may not find a name typed only as रिया.

  2. Devanagari letters are often several characters joined together: नमस्ते is six of them (न म स ् त े). Instagram's 150 may count every piece, so a Hindi bio can fill up faster than it looks. Check the counter in the app before you add emoji.

  3. Hinglish has no fixed spelling: zindagi, zindgi and zindagee all turn up. Use the spelling your friends use and keep it the same in your bio, highlight names and captions, so the profile reads in one voice.

  4. “Stylish font” generators only work on English letters. Unicode has bold and script copies of A to Z but none of Devanagari, so Hindi always shows in the phone's normal font. Keep fancy letters out of your name field as well, because searches for your name may not match them.

  5. For a shop or a class, keep comment and DM keywords in English capitals, like NOTES or DEMO, even when the rest of the bio is in Hindi. Customers can type them on any keyboard without switching scripts.

  6. Mix scripts line by line rather than mid-sentence: an English or Hinglish line for your work or city, then one Devanagari line for feeling. Each line stays easy to read on a small screen.

Questions people ask

Can I write my Instagram bio in Hindi?

Yes. Devanagari works in the bio box like any other script, with emoji and line breaks as usual. Type it in the app, or write it in your notes app and paste it in. If you don't have a Hindi keyboard, Hinglish needs nothing extra.

How do I type Hindi on my phone?

Add a Hindi keyboard in your phone's settings. Gboard on Android offers Hindi with transliteration, so typing “dosti” in English letters suggests दोस्ती, and the iPhone has a Hindi transliteration keyboard that works the same way. Gboard's voice typing also understands Hindi.

Is Hindi or Hinglish better for an Instagram bio?

Go by who reads it. Devanagari feels personal, catches the eye among English bios and suits family lines and shayari. Hinglish is easier for friends who speak Hindi but read the script slowly or not at all, including many who grew up outside India. Plenty of bios use both: Hinglish for the facts, Devanagari for one line with feeling.

Can I use a Bollywood dialogue or song line as my bio?

Many people do, but it is someone else's line, and the famous ones already sit on a great many profiles. A line about your family, your city or your chai order says more about you. Every bio on this page was written for it, so any of them is yours to use.

What should a Hindi bio for a small business say?
