Instagram bios for athletes
An athlete's bio does two jobs: it tells fans and teammates who you are, and it tells coaches, brands and recruiters what to look for. Below are original bios for both, from short lines to team and position details, plus a formula to build your own.

Write your own
A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.
- Your sport and position
- Your team, school or city
- One line of personality or approach
- How to reach you: link, DM word or email
Worked example
Midfielder | [club] | Leeds Patient on the ball, impatient in training ⚽ Highlights and schedule in the link 🎬
Fill in the blanks
Each part becomes a line of your bio. Nothing you type is uploaded.

Tips for your bio
Put your sport in the name field, for example 'Maya | Netball'. That is the line Instagram search weighs most, so people looking for your sport and name can find you.
Recruiters and coaches want facts: sport, position, graduation year, school or club, and a place to see film. Put the facts in the bio and the film in the link.
Skip claims you cannot back up on the spot, such as rankings, records or titles. If you do have a real result, name it plainly with the year, and keep it current.
Pin your best three clips. The bio explains who you are, but pinned posts show how you play, and that is what a coach will watch first.
If you take brand work, add a contact button or an email with a plain label, and keep the tone of the bio in line with the work you want.
Questions people ask
What should an athlete put in an Instagram bio?
Your sport, position, team or club, and city or school. Add one line of personality, then a way to reach you or see highlights. Skip anything you cannot prove, such as rankings.
What should a student-athlete put in their bio for recruiters?
Sport, position, graduation year, school, and a link to your highlight film or recruiting profile. Keep the tone friendly and professional, because coaches and parents may read it. Only add grades if you are happy to share them.
Should I use a professional account as an athlete?
A Creator account suits many athletes because it adds a contact button and insights, and lets you add a category. You can switch back to a personal account later if you change your mind.
Is it fine to use emoji in an athlete bio?
Yes, in small amounts. One for your sport and one for your team or city is enough. More than that makes a short bio harder to read, especially for a screen reader.
How long can my Instagram bio be?
150 characters, including spaces, emoji and line breaks. Each bio on this page is within that, and the count beside it shows the exact length.
