Instagram bios for dads

A good dad bio says who you are first and who you are to your kids second, in a line or two. These are original bios to copy as they are or adjust: proud, dry, sporty, handy, plus a set for dads with a side business or a channel.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. Dad first: how many kids or what stage
  2. A real detail about your week
  3. A touch of humour or warmth
  4. A next step, if you have one

Worked example

Dad of two 🏡 Saturday mornings at the pitch, Sunday evenings in the shed Still can't fold a fitted sheet

Tips for your bio

  1. Put your name, or a search-friendly word such as 'dad' or your trade, in the name field. The bio is searchable too, but the name field carries more weight when someone looks you up.

  2. Think before you name your kids or add their school. A first name or a nickname is plenty, and many parents leave children's names and locations out of a public bio completely.

  3. If you want the account to be a family album, switch it to private and keep the bio light. If it is public, assume a stranger can read every word.

  4. A dad-with-a-business bio works best when the trade comes before the dad part. Plumber, trainer or photographer is what a customer needs to see in the first line.

  5. Emoji do the work of a tiny photo caption. One tool, one hobby and one heart is usually enough, and two or three is easier on screen readers than a row of ten.

Questions people ask

What is a good Instagram bio for a dad?

One that is short and true: how many kids you have or what stage you are at, one real detail such as a hobby or a job, and a bit of humour. Avoid anything you would not say out loud to a parent at the school gate.

Should I mention my kids' names in my bio?

You can, but it is a personal call. Many dads use 'dad of two' or initials instead, especially on a public account, because a bio is visible to everyone and names can be searched.

How long can a dad bio be?

Instagram allows 150 characters, counting spaces, emoji and line breaks. Every bio on this page fits, and the count next to each one shows how much room you have left.

Can I use a dad bio for a business account?

Yes. Lead with the work, then add the dad line for personality. Add one clear step, such as 'DM QUOTE for a free estimate', so a visitor knows what to do next.

How do I make line breaks in my bio?

Edit your profile, tap the bio and press return where you want a new line. If your keyboard will not allow it, write the bio in your notes app with the breaks in place, copy it and paste it in.
