Instagram bios for thrift and vintage sellers

A thrift or vintage bio has to say what you stock, when new pieces land and how to buy, because every item is one of one. These are original bios for shops, resellers and people who just love the hunt, with a fill-in formula and tips on drops, sizing and honesty about condition.

Write your own

A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.

  1. What you sell: era, style or item
  2. Where it is sourced or who runs it
  3. How new pieces arrive (drop day or open hours)
  4. How to buy: link or DM word

Worked example

Vintage denim and knitwear 🧶 Sourced in Leeds, measured by hand Drop every Thursday at 7pm DM SIZE to ask about fit

Tips for your bio

  1. Put 'vintage' and your city in the name field, for example 'Rowan | Vintage Leeds'. That line is what Instagram search leans on most, and people looking for secondhand shops often search by place.

  2. Say when the next drop is. With one-of-one stock, followers need a date to be there for, so put it in the bio or a pinned post and change it each week.

  3. Mention how you size. Vintage sizes rarely match modern ones, so a line like 'all pieces measured' or 'DM SIZE for measurements' answers the question you would get in every comment.

  4. Be honest about condition in the bio's tone, and photograph flaws on the post. A buyer who knew about the small mark rarely complains, and one who didn't often does.

  5. Be careful with words such as 'authentic' or 'designer' unless you can prove it. If you sell branded pieces, say what you checked, or describe the item without a claim.

  6. Make a highlight called 'Sold' or 'Recent finds'. It shows that stock moves, and it keeps the bio free of item lists that go out of date within days.

Questions people ask

What should a thrift or vintage shop put in its Instagram bio?

What you sell, where you are, when pieces drop and how to buy. Because every item is a one-off, the drop day and the buying step matter more than a long description of your taste.

How do I make a thrift page look different from a regular shop?

Lean on the story of the stock: where it was found, the era, the fabric. A short line such as 'sourced in [city]' feels more personal than a brand slogan, and it fits what buyers of secondhand clothes are looking for.

Should a reseller say where they source from?

You can, in general terms such as 'charity shops, car boots and estate sales'. You do not have to name specific places. Many sellers keep their best spots private.

Can I use a thrift bio if I only shop secondhand and don't sell?

Yes. The funny and hunt sets are written for shoppers. Skip the drop and order lines, and add the thing you actually post, such as outfit photos or haul videos.

Is 150 characters enough for a shop bio?

It is tight but workable. Use three short lines: what you sell, when it drops, how to buy. Anything longer, such as returns or postage, belongs in a highlight or on the page your link points to.
