Write your own
A bio that works usually has the same few parts. Fill them in for yours, or start from the example.
- What you build or sell
- Who it is for
- One piece of personality or proof

Tips for your bio
Put the thing people can search for in the name field, such as your brand plus a keyword (“Maya | Candle maker”). Instagram searches the name and username more than the bio, so the keyword belongs there.
Pick one action for the bio link and say so in the last line. A bio that asks for a follow, a purchase, a call and a newsletter signup gets none of them.
Do not state results you can’t prove, such as revenue figures or “6-figure” claims. Say what you do and who you do it for, and let your posts show the rest.
Pin three posts that work as a mini-sales page: what you offer, a customer story you have permission to share, and how to start. New visitors read the pins before they scroll.
If you want leads from comments, tell people the exact word to type, like “Comment GUIDE on my latest Reel”. A named keyword is easier to act on than “reach out”.
Switch your account to Professional (Business or Creator). It adds a category line under your name, contact buttons and insights, and it is also required for any automation of comments and DMs.
Questions people ask
What should an entrepreneur put in an Instagram bio?
Say what you build or sell, who it is for and what to do next. Add one detail that is only true of you, like your city or the problem that started the business. Leave out vague titles such as “visionary” that tell people nothing.
Should I use my name or my brand in the bio?
Use the brand in the username and the name field if the account sells a product. If you are the product, as a consultant or creator, put your own name first and the brand second. Either way, make the first line say what you do.
Is it okay to use emoji in a professional bio?
Yes, sparingly. One or two emoji can separate lines or point at your link, for example 👇. A long string of rocket and money emoji makes a profile look like spam and is hard for screen readers to read aloud.
How long can my Instagram bio be?
150 characters. Spaces, emoji and line breaks all count. Every bio on this page fits, and the counter beside each one shows its length before you copy it.
Can I get leads straight from my bio?
Yes. Put a clear next step in the last line, such as “DM PRICE” or “Comment GUIDE on my latest Reel”, and make sure someone or something answers quickly. The link in your bio can then lead to one page with one offer.
