respond.io alternatives for smaller teams

For Instagram and Facebook alone, comment-to-DM tools such as Inro, LinkDM or DMFast (ours) cost a fraction of respond.io. For several channels on a smaller budget, look at Chatfuel or SendPulse. respond.io is still the stronger choice for a team that shares one inbox across WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook.

DMFast publishes this page and is one of the options on it, labelled as ours. Facts about the other products come from their own websites, checked on 6 October 2026.

Why people look beyond respond.io

  • There is no free plan. The cheapest listed plan, Starter, costs $948 a year, which works out at $79 a month.
  • Workflows, broadcasts and AI Agents aren’t on Starter. They start on Growth, at $1,908 a year or $159 a month.
  • Costs grow with use: extra monthly active contacts are $12 per 100 on Growth and $15 on Advanced, and AI credits past the allowance are $15 per 1,000.
  • Every extra user adds $12 a month on Starter, $20 on Growth and $24 on Advanced.
  • It is built for support and sales teams. A solo creator who mostly answers comment keywords pays for seats, routing and a shared inbox they may not use.

respond.io

Best for: Support and sales teams that field customer messages on WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook and want AI agents, routing and CRM updates in one place.

Strengths

  • Handles WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook conversations in one shared inbox for a whole team. DMFast has no WhatsApp or TikTok support.
  • The home page says its AI Agents can answer complex questions, update your CRM, recommend products and book appointments.

  • The 7-day free trial opens every Growth feature except broadcasts, for 5 users and 1,000 monthly active contacts.

  • No free plan. Starter, the cheapest listed plan, is $948 a year, equal to $79 a month.
  • Workflows, broadcasts and AI Agents are not on Starter; they begin with Growth at $1,908 a year.
  • Usage costs extra: $12 per 100 more monthly active contacts on Growth, $15 per 100 on Advanced, and $15 per 1,000 AI credits past the allowance.

When to stay with respond.io

Stay if conversations are a team job across several apps. respond.io puts WhatsApp, TikTok, Instagram and Facebook chats in one inbox, and its home page says its AI Agents can answer complex questions, update your CRM, recommend products and book appointments. Its Auto Private Replies already DM people who comment on Instagram, so comment-to-DM alone is no reason to leave.

  • You need SSO, webhooks or more than one workspace, which come with Advanced.
  • Your systems connect through Zapier, Make or its developer API, from Growth up.
  • WhatsApp carries much of your volume. DMFast doesn’t support it.

When DMFast fits instead

DMFast is made by the team behind this page, so weigh what follows with that in mind. It fits respond.io customers whose real traffic is Instagram and Facebook comments and DMs, handled by one person or a small team.

  • A free plan, then $9, $14 or $29 a month billed monthly, against yearly plans from $948.
  • Creator-style automations: keyword comments with a public reply, Story replies and mentions, DM keywords, “Only send to followers” and email capture with CSV export.
  • AI replies on Growth, at $14 a month with 1,000 credits, written only from the business details you supply.
  • Up to 5 seats on Business, enough for a small team, though not for a support department.

A support desk should stay put. DMFast covers Instagram and Facebook only, with no WhatsApp or TikTok, and it doesn’t route chats between agents, update a CRM or send broadcasts. Its Store, for selling, works only in India.

Moving Instagram and Facebook off respond.io

  1. Decide which channels move. If WhatsApp or TikTok stay, keep respond.io or another multichannel tool for them and move only Instagram and Facebook.
  2. Save your contact list before the plan ends.
  3. Turn off Auto Private Replies for the posts you are moving, so each comment gets its one private reply from a single tool.
  4. Rebuild each automation per post or Reel with a keyword, a public reply and a plain-text first DM; the link follows once the person answers.
  5. Copy what your AI Agent knows, such as prices, hours, policies and links, into DMFast’s business info, since its AI replies use only what you give it.

Tip: Finish open conversations in respond.io before switching. After 24 hours of silence a chat can only restart when the customer writes again, apart from support replies by a person under Meta’s human agent tag, which allow 7 days.

What respond.io costs for a small team

At the time of writing, respond.io prices its plans per year: Starter $948, Growth $1,908 and Advanced $3,348, with Enterprise priced on request. Extra users, contacts and AI credits are billed on top. The table sets that against DMFast for three common set-ups. respond.io does far more than DMFast, so read it as a comparison of cost, not capability.

Questions people ask

Does respond.io have a free plan?

No. It offers a 7-day free trial of the Growth plan instead, with every Growth feature except broadcasts, for 5 users and 1,000 monthly active contacts.

Can respond.io reply to Instagram comments automatically?

Yes. Its help centre describes Auto Private Replies: a DM sent when someone comments on a post, Reel, ad or Live, for all content or for posts you pick. As with any tool, Meta allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days, and Live comments only while the Live runs.

What is the cheapest alternative to respond.io?

SendPulse, Inro, LinkDM and DMFast all have free plans. Which works out cheapest depends on your channels: if you need WhatsApp, compare SendPulse and Chatfuel; for Instagram and Facebook only, DMFast’s paid plans start at $9 a month.

Is DMFast a replacement for respond.io?

For Instagram and Facebook automation, it can be. As a support desk it falls short: it covers no other channels, and it has no routing between agents and no CRM updates.
