Instagram auto-replies for student clubs
A student club account is run by a committee that changes every year and replies between lectures. Comment-to-DM sends new members the join details, meeting time and trial dates, and builds an email list that the next committee inherits. It cannot take payments or check a register.

Comment words for student clubs
Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.
- JOIN
- How to become a member: the fee if there is one, how to pay, what membership includes and the date and room of the first meeting.
- MEETING
- This week's meeting time, room and any change, with a short line on what the session covers and whether newcomers can drop in.
- TRYOUT
- Trial, audition or taster dates, what to bring, how long it takes and whether experience is needed.
- TRIP
- Dates, cost, deposit and sign-up deadline for an away trip or tournament, plus what the price covers and the cancellation terms.
- COMMITTEE
- The roles open at the next election, what each one involves, how much time it takes and when nominations close.
- SPONSOR
- How a local business can support the club: the packages, what it receives and the committee member who handles it.
- KIT
- What to wear or bring, what the club lends, where to collect it and how the deposit for borrowed equipment works.
4 set-ups to try
Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

Welcome, the join details are in your DMsFirst DM (plain text)
Thanks for the comment, great to see you. Have you done anything like this before, or would it be your first time? Reply and I'll send how to join and when we next meet.Yes pleaseJoin the clubSee how to joinOrientation week is the busiest recruitment window of the year, and a Reel from the stall draws students who are still deciding where to spend their time. Asking about experience makes beginners feel the club is for them.

MEETINGThanks for replying. Is this your first time coming along, or are you already a member? Reply and I'll send this week's time, the room and what we're doing. This week's meetingSee the detailsRooms and times change with the timetable, so an old screenshot sends people to the wrong building. Edit the message when you post the new Story, and the newcomer question tells you who to look out for at the door.
Trial dates for a team or a cast

Great, we've sent the trial details to your DMsFirst DM (plain text)
Thanks for your interest. Which position or part are you thinking of, and how much experience do you have? Reply and I'll send the dates, what to bring and how the day works.Yes pleaseTrial dates and what to bringSee the datesA post announcing trials draws students who are nervous about being judged. The question lets the committee see whether a spot is open, and the card removes the fear of arriving without the right kit.
Away-trip places from a countdown post
TRIPThanks for asking about the trip. Have you been away with the club before, and do you have any access or dietary needs we should know about? Reply and I'll send the cost, the deposit and the sign-up deadline.Trip: cost, dates and sign-upSee the detailsAdd TOUR and TOURNAMENT to the same auto-reply. Places are limited and the deposit comes before the date, so people who ask early need the deadline at once. The needs question lets the trip lead plan before booking.

What new students ask a club in DMs
The people messaging are mostly in their first weeks at a new place. They worry whether they are good enough, whether they know anyone and what it costs. A fixed card handles the facts, and a committee member can say hello.
| They ask | Send automatically | Answer yourself when |
|---|---|---|
| Do I need experience? | The JOIN card, with a friendly question | They mention an injury, a disability or a worry about fitting in |
| When and where do you meet? | The MEETING card | The room has changed since the last Story |
| How much does it cost? | The JOIN card with the fee and what it covers | They cannot afford it: a committee member decides what help exists |
| Can I come to a trial? | The TRYOUT card | Places are full or the format changed |
| Can my company advertise with you? | The SPONSOR card | They want exclusive rights or a large sum: the treasurer replies |
| Do I have to drink? | Nothing automatic | Always: answer personally and make sure no one feels pressured |
Tip: Say in the first line of the JOIN card that nobody is judged on ability. Newcomers decide in seconds whether the club is for them.
Posts that earn comments for a student club
- A Reel from the orientation-week stall, with a short clip of a normal session, and JOIN for details.
- A meeting poster as a Story each week, with MEETING in the text.
- A post announcing trials, with TRYOUT for dates and kit.
- Photos from last year's trip, posted with the members' agreement, with TRIP for this year's dates.
- A call for nominations before the committee vote, with COMMITTEE in the text.
- A thank-you to a local business that supported an event, with SPONSOR for others who want to join.
Student activity is seasonal in a way few other accounts are. Sign-ups spike in orientation week and again at the start of the next term, then drop sharply around exams. Put the words live before those weeks, and test each one from a second account.
From a comment to a first meeting
- The first DM asks one friendly question about experience or what they would like to try, then promises the join details.
- The card opens your sign-up page or the students' union page. DMFast does not take membership fees or hold a register.
- Collect emails with the beginner's guide. The CSV export gives the next committee a mailing list, and every member should be able to unsubscribe.
- Use the single reminder for students who asked about joining and went quiet. Many are waiting for a friend to decide.
- Have a committee member greet every person who said they were coming. A familiar face at the door beats any message.
A club in India could use the DMFast store for a paid workshop, a recorded session or a free guide in exchange for an email, with payments through Razorpay. Membership fees are normally collected in the way your institution or union requires.
Handovers, rules and risks for a society account
- Account ownership. Put the login in a shared, secure place and name the account for the club, not a person. A committee that leaves with the password takes the audience with it.
- Institution rules. Many universities require societies to be registered, approved or insured before they run events, collect fees or take sponsorship. Check yours.
- Photos and privacy. Ask members before posting their faces, particularly at socials. Some students are not out, or do not want a trace of a night out.
- Events with alcohol. Age limits and licensing rules differ by country and by venue. Never imply a drinking requirement to join.
- Safety and trips. Follow your institution's risk assessment process for trips and contact sports. A fixed reply cannot judge whether an activity suits a person's health.
- Meta's limits. A comment gets one private reply, within 7 days. Automated messages reach someone only within 24 hours of their last message.

Questions people ask
Can the first DM include our sign-up link?
Not after a comment. Instagram allows only plain text in the first message to a commenter, so it asks about experience and DMFast sends the card with your link when the person replies. A Story reply or a DM they send first can get the card straight away.
Our committee changes every year. How do we keep this going?
Keep the account in the club's name, store the login with the faculty or union adviser as well as the president, and write the keywords and messages into the handover document. The email list from the CSV export belongs to the club and should be passed on with a note on how it was collected.
Can we message everyone who came to orientation week?
Not through Instagram. Automated messages reach only people who wrote to you in the last 24 hours, and official tools do not send mass DMs. Collect emails with the beginner's guide, and check your institution's rules on marketing to students.
Is it free for a small society?
The Free plan covers one account and 100 people a month, which can cover a quiet term. Orientation week may go past that, so check what you expect before the stall opens. The plans page has the current limits.
Does it work with a Facebook Page or Group for the club?
It works with Facebook Pages through Messenger, not with Facebook Groups. Story replies and the follower gate are Instagram only. DMFast does not work with WhatsApp, TikTok, Threads or personal Instagram accounts.
