Instagram auto-replies for life coaches
Instagram DM automation sends a life coach's journal prompts, worksheets or call details to anyone who comments or messages a chosen word, such as PROMPTS or CLARITY. People often open up in DMs, so the set-ups below automate only the practical parts and leave the personal conversations to you.

Comment words for life coaches
Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.
- PROMPTS
- A month of journaling prompts from your carousel, one for each day, as a printable PDF.
- WHEEL
- A blank wheel-of-life worksheet: eight areas of life to score from 1 to 10, and three questions to ask once it's filled in.
- VALUES
- A values-sorting exercise: choose ten from a list of fifty, then narrow them down to your top three.
- BOUNDARIES
- Short scripts for saying no to extra work, family favours and last-minute plans, without a long apology.
- RESET
- A Sunday reset checklist: look at the week ahead, pick three priorities and choose one thing to drop.
- CLARITY
- What happens on your free clarity call, how long it lasts, your packages and prices, and where to pick a time.
- CIRCLE
- Dates, price and format of your next group coaching circle, with a waitlist for when places open.
4 set-ups to try
Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

Thanks for commenting. I've put a whole month of prompts on one printable sheet, one for each day. Would you like it? Asking for an email turns a one-off download into someone you can invite to your next workshop. On Pro and above, if they stop before typing it, DMFast sends one reminder while Instagram still allows a message.
Wheel of life worksheet from a Story
Replied to your story
WHEELGlad you want to try it. Score each area from 1 to 10 without overthinking, then look at the lowest two. Which one surprised you? Tell me if you like. The worksheet is below.Wheel of life worksheetGet the worksheetThe reply is private, which matters when someone is giving their relationship or their finances a 3. Ending on a question invites an answer, and each answer opens a fresh 24 hours in which you can reply in person.
Clarity call details for anyone who asks
CLARITYThanks for reaching out. Wondering whether coaching is right for you? The clarity call is free, lasts 30 minutes and comes with no pressure to sign up. Someone unsure about coaching can easily talk themselves out of it overnight, so an instant answer helps. The automation only gets them to your calendar; the call itself is yours.
Thank-you when someone shares your prompt
Mentioned you in their story
Thank you for sharing the prompt, it means a lot. Did it bring anything up for you? A warm thank-you, sent while the Story is still up, keeps that moment going, and the question gives them a reason to write back.

What people want to know before a first call
Few first messages are only about price. People want to know whether coaching fits their situation and whether you're the right person for it. Answer the common questions once, on the page the CLARITY card opens, and the automation can send it at any hour.
- “Is this like therapy?” Explain the difference plainly: coaching works on goals and next steps, and you refer people to a therapist or doctor for mental health concerns.
- “Are you certified?” Say what training you have. Life coaching isn't a licensed profession in most countries, so credentials such as the International Coaching Federation's ACC, PCC and MCC are voluntary, and the person asking is probably comparing coaches.
- “How many sessions will I need?” Describe your packages and how often you meet, without promising change in a set number of weeks.
- “Do you work with people in my time zone?” Show your hours in two or three time zones on the booking page.
Messages that always need a personal reply
- Anyone describing a crisis, thoughts of self-harm or abuse. Reply yourself, and point them to local emergency services or a crisis line.
- Long personal stories. They deserve a human answer, even a short one.
- Questions about a partner's, child's or friend's situation, which you can't judge from a DM.
Choose keywords that can't catch someone in distress
Coaching posts often say “comment STUCK if this is you.” As a trigger, a word that describes a feeling is risky. Keywords match the whole word anywhere in a message, so “I've been stuck in bed for weeks and I can't cope” would get the same cheerful reply as a passing comment.
- Don't make HELP, SAD, LOST, ALONE or STUCK a DM keyword, where it would answer every message that contains it.
- If a post really needs a feeling word, attach it to that one post and read its comments yourself.
- Prefer words that name the thing being sent: PROMPTS, WHEEL, VALUES.
- Write the first message so it still reads kindly to someone having a hard day. “Here's the worksheet” lands better than “Let's crush this week.”
Tip: Automation answers keywords. It can't tell when someone is struggling, so read your DMs yourself every day.
Posts that start conversations
- A carousel with five prompts from the month, ending with PROMPTS.
- Your own wheel of life as a Story, scores included, with “reply WHEEL” on the last frame.
- A Reel of three ways to say no at work, with BOUNDARIES for the full scripts.
- A Sunday evening Story showing how you plan the week, with RESET.
- A client's story, shared with written consent and details changed, ending with CLARITY.
- An Instagram Live Q&A. Set the word up before you start, because comments made during a Live can only get a private reply while it's running.
January and September are natural fresh starts, when people review the year or return to routines after summer. Breakups, moves and children leaving home happen all year, though, which is why evergreen posts such as PROMPTS and WHEEL are worth leaving switched on.
From a free resource to a paying client
- A post or Story offers PROMPTS, WHEEL or RESET. The first message to a commenter is plain text; the resource follows once they answer it.
- Collect an email for the bigger resources. You can export the list to your email software as a CSV, and throwaway addresses are turned away.
- Your newsletter and Stories invite people to a workshop or a clarity call. Anyone who replies CLARITY to a Story gets the booking link at once.
- The call is yours. Send the proposal and agreement by email afterwards, where they won't get lost in a DM thread.
- For a group program, open a waitlist with CIRCLE and email the list when places open, since automated DMs can't go out to everyone at once.
Coaching from India? The DMFast store sells workbooks and recorded workshops as digital products, swaps a lead magnet for an email, with a phone number as an optional extra, and books free or paid 1-on-1 sessions through Razorpay. DMFast takes no fee on those sales.
Promises, privacy and platform rules
- Don't promise outcomes. “Find your purpose in 90 days” is a claim nobody can guarantee, and rules on advertising claims and testimonials differ by country.
- Client stories need written permission, with names and details changed so nobody can be identified.
- Keep session notes and anything sensitive off Instagram.
- Meta allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days of it, and automated messages only within 24 hours of the person's last message.

Questions people ask
Isn't automation too impersonal for coaching?
It depends on what you automate. Send the parts that are the same for everyone, such as the prompts, the worksheet and the booking link, and write the first message in your own voice. When someone shares something personal, answer them yourself. Automation never stops you from replying.
What happens if someone in distress messages me?
A keyword reply only fires on the words you choose, which is why feeling words make poor keywords. AI replies, on the Growth and Business plans, stick to the business information you write and say someone will reply when the answer isn't there. Neither is a safety net: read your inbox daily and point anyone at risk to local emergency services.
Can I ask people to follow me before they get the worksheet?
Yes, on Pro and above, with “Only send to followers”. People who don't follow you yet are asked to follow, then tap to get the worksheet. It's Instagram only. Use it on freebies for new audiences, not on CLARITY: someone ready to book a call shouldn't have to follow you first.
Can I run a 5-day challenge with it?
Partly. A comment or Story reply word can sign people up and collect their emails, but Instagram won't let you message the whole group each morning, because automated messages need the person to have written in the last 24 hours. Send the daily lessons by email, and ask people to reply to each day's Story with a word to get that day's worksheet.
Do I need a business account?
You need a professional account, and a Creator account suits most coaches. Switching from a personal account is free and keeps your followers. On Facebook, DMFast works with Pages through Messenger.
