Instagram auto-replies for DJs

Instagram DM automation lets a DJ answer “is the full set up?”, “where are you playing next?” and “how much for a wedding?” without stopping to type: people comment or message a word like MIX or RATES, and the reply goes out straight away. This page covers both halves of the job, club nights and private bookings, plus the music rules that decide what you can post.

Comment words for DJs

Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.

MIX
The full recording of the set a clip came from, with its tracklist, on whichever platform you host mixes.
TRACKS
The songs in a clip, in order, typed into the first message itself, since naming a track needs no link.
TICKETS
The ticket link for your next club night or festival slot, with door times and when you're on.
RATES
Your packages for private and corporate bookings: hours, sound, lighting, travel and the deposit that secures the date.
WEDDING
The wedding package: ceremony and drinks music, a wireless microphone for speeches, a first-dance edit and the evening set.
REQUESTS
How you handle requests on the night, and the must-play and do-not-play form clients fill in beforehand.
PRESS
Your press kit for promoters: bio, photos, a recent mix, past venues and your tech rider.

4 set-ups to try

Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

  • Full set from a two-minute clip

    Someone comments on your post

    MIX

    Public reply under their comment

Full set is in your DMs 🎧

    First DM (plain text)

Glad that one landed. The clip is two minutes of a 90-minute set, and the full recording comes with the tracklist. Want the link? Reply here and I'll send it.Yes pleaseFull set and tracklistListen to the set

Meta's music guidelines restrict content that is mostly recorded music and recommend short clips, so the hour belongs on a platform built for mixes. The clip earns the comment and the DM carries people to the full set. To grow the account, turn on “Only send to followers” for this one.

  • Ticket link from a flyer Story

    Replied to your story

TICKETSGood to hear you're coming. Doors open at 10 and I'm on from midnight. Want a ticket before the early-bird price ends? The link is below.Saturday: tickets and set timesGet tickets

Flyer Stories get replies anyway; a keyword turns each reply into a ticket link on the spot. The person wrote to you first, so the link can follow the opening message. Change the text the morning after the gig, or late replies will be pointed at a night that's over.

  • Packages for “are you free, and how much?”

RATESThanks for the message. What's the date, and where's the party? I'll check the diary myself, and in the meantime the page below has every package, from three hours with sound only to a full night with lighting.Packages, prices and add-onsSee packages

Let PRICE, AVAILABLE and HOW MUCH trigger it as well. The date and venue in their answer are what you need to confirm a booking, and with prices already in front of them, your reply can go straight to whether you're free.

  • Tonight's playlist for guests who tag you

    Mentioned you in their story

Thanks for the tag, glad you were up dancing. Want the songs from tonight? I've put them in a playlist below, with how to book me for your own party.Tonight's playlistOpen the playlist

Guests tag the DJ in Stories from the dance floor, and a guest at someone else's wedding is a likely next booking. The playlist gives them something to keep, and the page it opens can carry your packages. Story mentions are Instagram-only, so this one doesn't run on Facebook.

Freebies worth commenting for

  • A must-play and do-not-play form, with space for the first dance, the last song and the parents' favourites
  • What a DJ needs from the venue: power points, table size, load-in time and any sound limiter
  • Three sample running orders for a wedding evening, from the first dance to the last song
  • Questions to ask any DJ before booking: insurance, backup equipment and overtime rates
  • A guide to first-dance edits, for couples whose song runs longer than they want to dance
  • A prom request form for students, with a do-not-play section staff sign off
  • A one-page tech rider template for DJs booking their first club gigs
  • A music brief for company parties: crowd age, songs to avoid and when the speeches happen

Two inboxes: the dance floor and the diary

A DJ's messages come from two crowds. Clubbers and followers want the full set, the track names and the next gig. People booking you want a price, a date and some sign that you'll read the room. Both can get an instant first answer, just not the same one.

From followers and clubbers

  • “ID?” under every clip. Put TRACKS in the caption and the names go out typed in order, or with a plain note that a track is unreleased. Set it per post, since every clip has different tracks.
  • “Is the full set up?” MIX sends the recording.
  • “Where are you playing next?” TICKETS, kept current.
  • Promoters asking for a mix and a rider. PRESS sends the kit; the fee is a conversation for you.

From people booking you

  • “How much for four hours?” RATES.
  • “Can you do the ceremony as well?” WEDDING covers the extra sound and the microphone.
  • “Will you play what we ask for?” REQUESTS explains the form and how you take requests on the night.
  • “Are you insured?” Answer this yourself and send the certificate by email. Venues often ask DJs for public liability cover, and in the UK many also want PAT test records for the equipment.

Before you reply to a promoter you don't know, DMFast's Research can pull up their public Instagram account, with its follower count and recent posts, so you can see what their nights look like.

Posting sets without losing the audio

Meta's music guidelines say its apps aren't for providing a music-listening experience, that a video's main purpose shouldn't be recorded audio alone, and that the more of a post is music, the more likely it is to be restricted. They recommend short clips, and live video is held to the same rules. Long recorded sets are the posts most likely to be muted or blocked.

  • Keep clips short and give people something to watch: the crowd, your hands on the mixer, the room filling up.
  • Host full sets on a platform made for DJ mixes and hand them out with MIX, rather than uploading the hour to Instagram.
  • Account type changes the music picker. Business accounts get a smaller library of licensed tracks for Reels and Stories than Creator accounts. DMFast works with both, so choose the one that fits how you post.
  • Put MIX, TICKETS and PRESS links on a DMFast link-in-bio page too, for people who tap your profile instead of commenting.

Tip: If you film at weddings and private parties, ask the client before posting, and keep guests who haven't agreed out of shot. A clip from someone's wedding is their memory before it's your marketing.

From enquiry to the night itself

  1. RATES or WEDDING sends the packages and asks for the date and venue. You check the diary and reply in person.
  2. Confirm with a contract and a deposit by email. Many DJs only hold a date once the deposit is paid; say what you do on the packages page.
  3. A few weeks out, send the REQUESTS form, and ask the venue about load-in times, power, any sound limiter and whether haze is allowed, since it can set off smoke alarms.
  4. On the night, guests tag you in Stories, and the story-mention reply hands them the playlist along with your booking details.
  5. Afterwards, ask the client for a review, ideally within the week.

Based in India? The DMFast store can sell digital products you own outright, such as a mixing course or a sample pack you made, and take paid one-to-one calls, such as an online lesson or a planning call with a couple. Payments go through Razorpay, and DMFast takes no fee on sales.

Words that don't misfire

  • MIX also fires on “this mix is unreal”. That's usually welcome, since the person wanted more; if other DJs' compliments keep setting it off, switch to FULLSET.
  • People really do type ID, but a two-letter keyword catches more than you'd guess. If you add it, use it on clip posts only, and comment from another account to see what sets it off.
  • WEDDING suits wedding content, but it would also answer “this was our wedding song” under a club clip. Attach it to wedding posts only.
  • Each person gets one reply a day from each auto-reply, and comments that are only links or promo spam are skipped, so the accounts offering to “promote” your Reel get nothing back.
  • Meta permits a single private reply to each comment, inside 7 days. If a clip spreads, Instagram stops at 750 private replies an hour; DMFast keeps under 700 and queues the overflow.

Questions people ask

Can the first message just be the tracklist?

Yes. The first DM to a commenter has to be plain text with no links, and track names are plain text. List them in order and end with a question, such as “Want the full set?”, so a reply opens the way for the MIX card.

Should my account be Creator or Business?

Either works with DMFast. The difference for a DJ is music: Business accounts get a smaller library of licensed tracks in Instagram's music picker. That library only covers songs you add in the app; a clip you filmed can still be muted for the music in it, whichever type you choose.

Can it reply to comments during a live set?

Yes, while the stream is running: Meta only allows a private reply to a Live comment during the Live, so add the word before you go on. Bear in mind that a long Live of recorded music meets the same music rules as a long upload.

Can I message everyone who came to the last gig?

No. Automated DMs only reach someone within 24 hours of their last message, and official tools don't send mass DMs. Post the next flyer as a Story with TICKETS, and everyone who replies gets the link at once. For a list you own, ask for an email when they reply.

Does it work on my Facebook Page?

Yes, for comments on your Page's posts and messages in Messenger. Story replies and mentions are Instagram-only, so the flyer and playlist set-ups stay on Instagram, while MIX, RATES and PRESS work on both.
