Instagram auto-replies for hair salons

Instagram DM automation lets a hair salon answer “how much for balayage?”, send a colour consultation form or fill a same-day cancellation while every stylist is with a client. People comment or message a word such as PRICES or BLONDE, and the right page reaches them at once, along with the consultation and skin test steps a colour booking needs.

Comment words for hair salons

Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.

PRICES
Starting prices by stylist level, from new stylist to senior or director, and what moves a price up: length, thickness and colour history.
CONSULT
The colour consultation form: current colour, any box dye or henna, recent treatments, and photos of the hair in daylight.
BLONDE
What going lighter involves: why a big lift often takes more than one visit, the tests beforehand and how to care for lightened hair.
GREY
The ways to handle grey: blending, highlights, a gloss or growing it out, with how often each needs a top-up.
CURLY
How your curly cuts work, which stylists do them and how to wear your hair to the appointment so the stylist sees its natural pattern.
EXTENSIONS
The extension methods you offer, the colour-match visit before fitting, the upkeep each method needs and where prices start.
MODEL
Model nights: lower-priced services by trainee stylists with an educator checking each step, the looks needed this month and how to sign up.
TODAY
A same-day gap from a cancellation: the time, the stylist, the services that fit the slot and the link to book it.

4 set-ups to try

Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

  • Going-blonde guide from a colour transformation Reel

    BLONDE

    Public reply under their comment

Guide sent, worth a read before you book ✨

    First DM (plain text)

Thanks for the love on this one. It took two sessions to get here, which is normal for a big lift. Want our guide to going lighter, with what happens at each visit? Reply here and we'll send it over.Yes pleaseGoing blonde: what to expectRead the guide

Transformation Reels attract people hoping for the result in one sitting. The guide sets honest expectations before they book and ends with the consultation form, so the stylist sees their colour history before naming a price. Viewers in other cities still get something useful.

  • Price list for “how much is a cut and colour?”

PRICESThanks for asking. Prices depend on the stylist's level and on your hair's length and thickness, so the list below gives a starting price for each service. Which service are you thinking of? Colour is confirmed after a consultation.Prices by stylist levelSee prices

A cut and colour has no single price, and a bare number can turn into a surprise at the till. Starting prices plus what changes them is the honest answer. Add PRICE, COST and the phrase HOW MUCH, because matching is by whole word and PRICES alone won't catch “price?”.

  • Same-day cancellation offered in a Story

    Replied to your story

TODAYYou're quick. The gap is at 2:30pm with one of our senior stylists, long enough for a cut and blow-dry. Would you like it? Book below and the slot is yours.Today's free slotBook it

A cancellation is an empty chair, and people watching your Stories are the likeliest to fill it. Their reply is a message they started, so the booking link goes out at once. Offer a same-day colour slot only to clients whose skin test is current, because a new colour client can't have one in time.

  • Model sign-ups for trainee nights

    Details sent, check your messages

    First DM (plain text)

Thanks for offering to model. This month our trainees are working on long layers and root colour. How long is your hair, and has it been coloured in the last year? Reply and I'll send the sign-up form.Yes pleaseModel nights: sign upSign up

Trainees need particular hair, not just willing volunteers. Asking about length and colour history first saves everyone a wasted evening, and the form can say plainly that appointments run longer than usual because an educator checks every step.

  • Aftercare for lightened hair: wash days, purple shampoo and heat settings

  • A wash-day routine for curly hair between cuts
  • Extensions explained: tapes, bonds, rings and wefts, and the upkeep each one needs

What the front desk answers all day

Salon DMs arrive while every stylist has foils in or scissors moving and the receptionist is at the till. Most have a standard answer. The rest need a stylist's eye, and the automation should make them easy to spot.

Tip: AI replies, on the Growth and Business plans, answer from the salon information you write. List who does curly cuts, colour corrections and extensions, and “who should I book with?” gets a straight answer rather than a promise that someone will reply.

Colour bookings: consultation, skin test, then the chair

Colour is where most salon complaints begin. Let the automation gather the facts, and leave every promise about the result to a stylist.

  1. A comment word or PRICES sends the guide or the price list. A commenter's first message is plain text, and the card follows once they reply.
  2. The card opens the consultation form: colour history, photos in daylight and what they hope for. Ask about henna, since some henna products contain metallic salts that react badly with lightener.
  3. A stylist reads the form and replies personally with a price range, asking for a strand test if the hair has a complicated history.
  4. Colour manufacturers' instructions generally call for a skin test 48 hours before colouring. Many salons insist on one for new colour clients and repeat it for regulars at set intervals, so book it in before the appointment.
  5. Reminders come from your booking system. Instagram only allows automated messages within 24 hours of the client's last one, which rules out a reminder the day before.

Clients often tag the salon in a Story after a colour appointment. A story-mention auto-reply can thank them and send the aftercare guide for their service. If you sell the shampoos and treatments you use online, a product carousel can follow the guide, so the advice and the products arrive together.

Posts that bring new clients, and the weeks that fill first

  • A colour transformation filmed by the same window before and after, with BLONDE and the number of sessions in the caption.
  • A consultation, filmed with the client's agreement, showing the questions you ask before mixing colour, with CONSULT.
  • A grey-blending reveal three months in, with GREY.
  • A dry curly cut from start to finish, with CURLY.
  • An extension weft held against the client's own hair during a colour match, with EXTENSIONS.
  • A Story posted the moment a cancellation comes in, with TODAY in large letters.

Diaries fill in waves: December's party season, wedding season and summer, when people want to go lighter. In India, the run-up to Diwali and the wedding months bring their own rush. Have each auto-reply ready before its rush begins rather than during it.

Tip: Use both COLOUR and COLOR if you set either as a keyword. Matching works on whole words, so a salon listening only for COLOUR misses every client who spells it the American way.

Consent, promises and Meta's limits

  • Consent. Ask before filming or photographing a client, and keep anyone who says no out of shot. For children, ask a parent.
  • Promises. A guide can explain what a treatment does. It shouldn't promise that damaged hair will be repaired, that hair will grow faster, or that a colour will last a set number of weeks.
  • Model nights. Say in the sign-up form that trainees do the work and that it takes longer, and book colour models in for a skin test first, as you would any new colour client.
  • Meta's rules. Each comment can receive one private reply, within 7 days. Instagram caps an account at 750 private replies an hour, and DMFast stops short at 700 and sends the remainder afterwards, which matters when a transformation Reel takes off.

Questions people ask

Can our front desk and stylists answer from one inbox?

Yes. The Business plan includes five seats, so the receptionist, the manager and a senior stylist can each sign in and pick up conversations the automation started. It also covers up to ten accounts, for stylists who run their own professional profiles alongside the salon's.

Can the auto-reply tell a client whether a colour will work on their hair?

No. Whether a shade is possible depends on what's already on the hair, and only a stylist can judge that. The reply sends the consultation form instead. AI replies stay within the information you've written and say a stylist will follow up when the answer isn't there.

A stylist is off sick. Can we message everyone booked with them?

Not through Instagram. Automated messages only reach people who wrote to the salon in the last 24 hours, and official tools can't message everyone at once. Contact those clients by text or email from your booking system, and if another stylist can cover, offer the freed times in a TODAY Story.

Some of our clients prefer Facebook. Are messages there answered?

Yes. DMFast answers comments on your Facebook Page's posts and messages sent to the Page in Messenger, using the same keywords. Story replies and the follow gate exist only on Instagram, so TODAY Stories stay there.

Can clients book a consultation through DMFast?

The card can open your salon's booking page, which suits in-salon consultations. In India, the DMFast store can also take free or paid bookings for 1-on-1 video calls, useful for a colour consultation before someone travels in, with payments through Razorpay and no DMFast fee on sales.
