How to answer “price?” on Instagram
Answer a price question with the price in the first line, then give one next step: a link to buy, a question about size or date, or a booking link. If the price depends on the job, say what it depends on and give a starting figure. The 14 replies below cover fixed prices, quotes, discounts and sold-out items, and the set-up shows how to answer the word PRICE automatically.

Fixed price, one item
Hi! This one is {price}, and delivery is {price} on top. You can order it here: {link}. Shall I check your size first?
Price, extra costs, link, then a question. Whatever they ask next, the chat is already moving.
The whole price list
Our current prices for everything are in one place: {link}. Most people start with the {product} at {price}.
Naming a popular starting point helps someone who opens a long list and doesn't know where to look.
Price that depends on the job
Good question! It depends on {what it depends on}, so it usually comes to between {price} and {price}. Send me {details} and I'll give you an exact price today.
A range is honest when the price really varies, and asking for the details turns a vague question into a quote.
Starting price for a service
Cuts start at {price} and colour starts at {price}. The final price depends on your hair's length and thickness. Would you like me to find you a time?
Written for a salon, but the shape works for any service: the lowest price, what moves it up, then the next step.
First DM after a “price?” comment
Hi! You asked about the price on our post, so here's an automatic message. It's {price}. Want the link to order? Reply YES and I'll send it.
The first DM after a comment can't carry a link, but it can carry the price itself, which answers the question on the spot.
Public reply under the comment
Sent you the price by DM 💬
Keeps the thread tidy. If your prices aren't a secret, a reply that states the price helps everyone else reading the comments too.
Price of something in a screenshot
Thanks for the screenshot! That's the {product}, and it's {price}. We have it in {sizes or colours}. Which would you like?
Name the product back to them, so you both know you're talking about the same thing.
Sold out
Sorry, that one has sold out. The closest thing we have is the {product} at {price}: {link}. Happy to send a photo of it if that helps.
Offer an alternative in the same message. A bare “sold out” usually ends the chat.
Asking for a discount
We don't have a code running right now, but orders over {price} ship free. If it helps, adding {product} would get you there.
Be straight about it. A discount invented to close one sale means everyone else paid more.
“That's too expensive”
That's fair, and thanks for saying so. If it helps, the {smaller option} does the same job for {price}. No pressure either way.
Don't argue with the price or apologise for it. A cheaper option, or none, is the respectful answer.
Bulk or wholesale
For orders of {quantity} or more we can do a lower price per piece. Roughly how many do you need, and by when?
Two questions, both needed for a quote. Don't send a wholesale list to someone who wants five.
Shipping abroad
It's {price} plus shipping. Shipping to {country} is usually {price} and takes about {time}. Import duties may be charged on arrival, depending on your country's rules.
Mentioning duties up front prevents an unhappy message when a parcel is held at customs.
How to pay
You can pay by {payment methods}. Once it's done, send a screenshot of the payment here and we'll confirm your order the same day.
List only the ways you really accept, and say when they'll hear back after paying.
When the price was in the caption
It's {price}! Would you like the link to order, or do you have a question about it first?
Answer as if it wasn't there. People skim, and pointing out the caption only makes them feel told off.

Message PRICE, get the price list at once
A DM starts the 24-hour window by itself, so DMFast sends the answer and the price card back to back and nobody has to type YES first. Words match whole: PRICE catches “price?” and “what's the price” but not “prices”, so add PRICES, COST and HOW MUCH as well.

Rules to know
- When someone DMs you, automated replies can be sent for 24 hours from their latest message, and inside that window they may include prices, offers and links.
- A price question left as a comment can get one private reply within 7 days of the comment. It can state the price as text, but the link has to wait for their answer.
- Any reply that runs automatically has to say so.
- After 24 hours, automated messages stop. A real person can still answer for up to 7 days with Meta's human agent tag, where the tool supports it, but not to promote anything.
- A product carousel in a DM holds at most 10 cards, each with its own photo, price and button.
- Meta's help centre says keyword replies made in Meta Business Suite are case-sensitive and won't send unless the keyword matches exactly.

Where price questions turn up
| Where they ask | What they type | What to set up |
|---|---|---|
| A DM | “price?”, “how much”, “cost?” | A DM keyword reply with the price list or a product carousel |
| A comment under a post | “price?”, “how much is this” | A comment keyword: a public reply, a first DM with the price, the link after they answer |
| A reply to your Story | “how much is this?” | A Story auto-reply with the same words, because Story replies are handled separately |
Keep the DM and comment versions as separate auto-replies, because the rules differ. A DM can be answered with the link straight away; a comment gets plain text until the person writes back.
Words people use to ask
Matching is by whole word in any case, and phrases match anywhere in the message. List every form your customers actually type:
- PRICE and PRICES, which count as different words
- COST, as in “what does it cost?”
- HOW MUCH, as a two-word phrase
- RATE and RATES, common for services
- The word in other languages your customers write in, such as PRECIO in Spanish or KITNA, “how much” in Hindi
Tip: Before choosing, read the last few dozen price questions in your inbox. They show exactly how your customers ask.
Price in the post, or “DM for price”?
“DM for price” turns every interested buyer into a message someone has to answer, and some shoppers will scroll on rather than ask. A price in the caption or on the photo answers them at once. There are fair reasons to keep prices out of posts, such as costs that change daily, custom work or trade rates, and then an automatic reply to PRICE keeps the wait short.
What people ask after the price
The next message is usually about one of three things, so keep the answers ready, typed out or as keyword replies:
- Delivery: how much, how long, and whether you ship to their country.
- Choice: sizes, colours, or which package suits them.
- Paying: the methods you accept and what happens after they've paid.
On DMFast's Growth and Business plans, AI replies can answer these follow-ups using only the business information you've written, at one credit per reply. Haggling, custom orders and anything to do with refunds are better left to a person.
To see whether your price replies work, compare the number of price questions in a week with the orders that started in DMs. If many people ask and then go quiet, try a reply that ends on a question about them instead of ending on the link.
Questions people ask
Should I give the price straight away or ask what they need first?
Give the price first. Asking “which one do you mean?” before answering feels like a sales script. If it really depends, give the range, then ask the one question that narrows it down.
How do I answer “price” DMs automatically on Instagram?
Set up a DM keyword reply. In DMFast, any message containing PRICE gets your answer and a price list card at once. Meta Business Suite has keyword replies too, which Meta says can only be set up in the desktop version.
Can I send prices to everyone who commented “price” on my post?
Yes, one message each, within 7 days of their comment. That first message can include the price as text but not a link. When they answer, the link to buy can follow.
What if my prices change often?
Keep them out of the automatic reply itself. Link to a price page you keep up to date, so the card is always right even if you forget to edit the auto-reply.
Is it fine to keep prices private and ask people to DM?
It's allowed, and common for custom work. Just answer fast: someone asking the price is close to buying, and an automatic reply means they don't wait hours for a number.
