Instagram auto-replies for barbers and barbershops
Instagram DM automation lets a barber answer “open today?”, “how much for a skin fade?” and “what's this cut called?” without putting the clippers down. Clients comment or message a word such as OPEN or FADE, and the hours, the prices or a card describing the exact cut reaches them while you finish the line-up in the chair.

Comment words for barbers and barbershops
Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.
- OPEN
- Opening hours, whether you take walk-ins or appointments only, the walk-in cut-off time and when the wait is usually shortest.
- PRICES
- Prices for a cut, skin fade, beard trim, hot towel shave and kids' cuts, plus what you charge for designs and colour.
- FADE
- A cut card for the fade in your Reel: where the fade starts, the guard numbers, the length on top and how it's styled.
- BEARD
- How to grow a beard to its first shape-up, and what beard oil and beard balm each do.
- PRODUCT
- The styling product from your Reel, with how clay, paste, pomade and wax differ in hold and shine.
- KIDS
- Kids' cuts: the ages you cut, the quietest times for a first haircut and how parents can keep a toddler settled in the chair.
- CHAIR
- For barbers, not clients: the chair you're renting out or the job you're hiring for, the terms and how to apply.
4 set-ups to try
Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

Cut card's in your DMs 💈First DM (plain text)
Thanks for watching. I've written this cut down the way a barber needs to hear it: where the fade starts, the guard numbers and how the top is styled. Want the card? Reply and I'll send it, with my booking link if you're local.Yes pleaseThe cut card: mid skin fadeSee the card“What's this cut called?” sits under every fade Reel, and a name isn't enough: a mid skin fade and a low taper can look alike on a phone. Local viewers book from the card. People further away take it to their own barber, and some follow you for the next cut.
Hours and walk-ins for “you open?” messages
OPENThanks for checking. We're open Tuesday to Saturday, 9 till 7, with walk-ins taken until 6:15, and weekday mornings usually have the shortest wait. Would you rather have a set time? Book a chair below.Book a chairBook now“Open today?” arrives most on Saturday mornings and the evening before a holiday, when your hands are busiest. A fixed answer with the walk-in cut-off saves wasted trips. Add HOURS and SUNDAY to this reply, and rewrite it before any public holiday or early close.
Rebooking when a client tags a fresh cut

Appreciate the tag, that cut came out sharp. A fade softens within a couple of weeks, so do you want to grab your next slot while it's on your mind? Times are below.Book your next cutPick a timeFresh-cut Stories are the best advert a barber gets, and clients post them while they still love the cut. A thank-you with the next slot rebooks regulars without a hard sell. Send it once: Instagram doesn't allow a second automated nudge a day later.

Thanks for your interest in the chair. Are you looking to rent it, or for a commission or wage job, and how long have you been cutting? Reply and I'll send the terms and how to apply.Yes pleaseThe chair at our shop: termsRead the termsHiring posts fill up with barbers and with clients tagging their mates. A separate word keeps job questions out of your bookings, and asking about experience first helps you spot a fit before you share terms. Ask applicants to send their work as a link to their own account.

Walk-ins, wait times and the messages in between
Barbershop DMs are short and come in bursts: open? price? wait? Or a screenshot of a cut with “can you do this?”. Some have a fixed answer. Others change by the minute and need you, or a ten-second Story.
| They send | What goes back | Step in when |
|---|---|---|
| You open today? | OPEN, with hours and the walk-in cut-off | Your hours have changed and the message hasn't yet |
| How much for a skin fade? | PRICES | They want a design, colour or a group booking |
| How long's the wait? | Nothing automatic: the queue changes by the minute | Reply yourself, or post a Story of the waiting area |
| A screenshot and “can you do this?” | Nothing: an image on its own can't match a keyword | Always, and be honest if it isn't your strength |
| Do you cut kids? | KIDS, with ages and quiet times | A parent says their child finds haircuts hard: offer a quiet slot |
| Got a chair going? | CHAIR, with the terms and how to apply | An experienced barber sends their work |
Tip: Keep CUT, FRESH and CLEAN off your trigger list. “Fresh cut” and “clean fade” are the compliments barbers hear most, and nobody who types them is asking for a price list.
Posts that fill the chairs
- A fade from the back, slowed down through the blend, with FADE for the cut card.
- A beard shape-up from the side, before and after, with BEARD.
- Towel-dried to styled in 30 seconds, with PRODUCT.
- A child's first haircut, posted with a parent's permission, with KIDS.
- The shop at opening time with empty chairs, as a Story saying walk-ins are welcome, with OPEN as the reply word.
- A “chair available” post showing the station, the light and the street outside, with CHAIR.
Plenty of clients follow their barber rather than the shop, and move with them. If each barber runs a professional account, each can have their own words and booking link: Pro covers three accounts, and Business covers ten, with five seats for whoever answers the shop's inbox.
Rush days and the barber's calendar
- Fridays, Saturdays and the evening before a public holiday: put any holiday hours into OPEN the day before.
- Before Eid: in many communities a fresh cut is part of the celebration, and shops stay open late the night before. Put the late hours in OPEN and in a Story.
- The week before schools go back, whenever that falls where you are: parents bring children in batches, so have KIDS ready.
- Wedding season: grooms and groomsmen often book together. Add a line about group bookings to PRICES.
- December: work parties and family photos fill the diary, and OPEN works harder than any other reply.
Facebook still matters for many local shops. DMFast answers comments on your Facebook Page's posts and messages to the Page in Messenger, with the same words. Story mentions and Story replies are Instagram-only, so the rebooking thank-you stays there.
Photos, children and the rules
- Faces. Some clients don't want theirs online. Film the back of the head or crop at the jaw, and ask before you post.
- Children. Post a child's haircut only with a parent's permission, and leave out school uniforms and anything that shows where they live.
- Licences. In the US, barber licences are issued state by state, while the UK has no compulsory licence. Check what applies where you work.
- Shaves. Use a fresh blade for every straight-razor shave, and say so on the PRICES card. It's a fair question from anyone booking their first.
- Instagram's rules. A comment can get one private reply, within 7 days of being posted, and automated messages reach someone only within 24 hours of their last one. There's no official way to message every follower about new hours.

Questions people ask
Can the auto-reply tell people how long the wait is?
No. It sends the words you wrote, and the queue changes every few minutes. AI replies, on Growth and Business, also work only from the information you give them, so they can't see who's sitting in the shop. Post a quick Story of the waiting area instead, and let OPEN cover the hours.
Can clients book a chair through DMFast?
The card opens the booking page or app you already use; DMFast doesn't take haircut appointments itself. If you teach barbering from India, its store can sell a recorded fade course as a digital product and take paid 1-on-1 video calls, through Razorpay and with no DMFast fee.
Will every “🔥🔥” comment get a DM?
No. Keyword auto-replies only answer comments that contain your word, so fire emojis and friends tagging friends are left for you to like. Comments that are only links or promotions are skipped too, and each person gets one answer a day from each auto-reply.
I'm a mobile barber. What changes?
Mostly the OPEN reply. Swap shop hours for the areas you cover, your travel charge and how much notice you need. FADE, PRODUCT and the rebooking thank-you work exactly the same, wherever the chair happens to be.
Does the free plan cover a one-chair shop?
Often, yes. The Free plan covers one account and up to 100 people a month, enough for OPEN and one Reel word. If a fade Reel takes off, Pro removes the limit on people and adds the follow gate and replies to older comments.
