Instagram auto-replies for musicians and bands
A band's inbox fills after a good clip or a show: where are you playing, can you do our event, where do I get the record. Comment-to-DM sends gig dates, booking details and merch information to anyone who types a word, even mid-set. A person still confirms any booking.

Comment words for musicians and bands
Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.
- GIGS
- Upcoming show dates, with the venue and the city, sent to people who comment on a live clip.
- TICKETS
- The ticket page and door time for the next show, sent to people who reply to the announcement Story.
- BOOK
- How to book you for a private event or a venue night: set length, space and power needs, and what the fee covers.
- MERCH
- What you have in the shop, shipping times by region and when the next print run of vinyl or shirts is due.
- PRESAVE
- The pre-save link for the next single and its release date, sent to anyone who comments on the teaser.
- TABS
- The chord sheet or tab for the riff in your most-watched clip, so guitarists stop asking in the comments.
- SETLIST
- Last night's setlist with the key and tempo of each song, for people who couldn't catch a title.
4 set-ups to try
Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

Dates are in your DMs, hope to see you there 🎸First DM (plain text)
Thanks for watching. Which city or town are you in? Reply and I'll send the dates for shows near you.Yes pleaseUpcoming showsSee the datesLive clips travel far beyond the towns you can reach. Asking for the city tells you where people are asking for shows, which is useful when you plan a tour, and it stops you sending dates 800 miles away.
Booking enquiries for weddings and private events
BOOKThanks for thinking of us. What kind of event is it, which date and roughly where? Reply with those three and I'll send our booking details and how long a set runs.Booking details and tech specOpen the detailsAdd HIRE, WEDDING and QUOTE to the same auto-reply. Type of event, date and place decide whether you can say yes and what you would charge, so they come first. The card shares the tech spec so the organiser can check the space.

Glad you want it the moment it lands. Shall I send the pre-save link and the release date? Reply here and I'll send both.Yes pleasePre-save the new singlePre-save nowTeaser comments arrive in the first day or two, and the link in your bio is easy to miss. A pre-save counts only if it's done before release day, so the DM gets it to people while they're still watching.

TICKETSSee you at the show, then. Are you after tickets for yourself or a group? Reply and I'll send the ticket page and what time the doors open.Tickets and door timesGet ticketsShow Stories vanish within a day, and ticket questions come in right up to the doors. Groups ask about different things than a single buyer, so the question lets you step in when someone is bringing ten friends.

What fans, bookers and other musicians ask a band
Fans want dates and records, organisers want a quote, and other musicians want a gig or a favour. They write at night after shows and in bursts after a clip does well, which is when you're loading the van or asleep.
| They ask | Send automatically | Answer yourself when |
|---|---|---|
| When are you playing near me? | The GIGS card, after asking for the city | They ask about a private show or a request for a new town |
| Can you play our wedding? | The BOOK questions and tech spec | Always for the price and the date: your diary isn't visible to DMFast |
| Where can I buy the record? | The MERCH or PRESAVE card | They want a signed copy sent abroad or a custom order |
| Can I send you my demo? | Nothing, or one line on how you handle submissions | You want to hear it, or it's from a promoter or label |
| Play my open mic for free? | Nothing | Always: whether it's worth the night is your decision |
| What chords are in that clip? | The TABS card | They ask for a cover you haven't written out |
Tip: A band shares one inbox, so decide who answers the booking replies. Write that person's name on the card page so organisers know who will get back to them.
Posts that earn comments, and the word for each
- A 20-second live clip from the best moment of the set, with GIGS for the next dates.
- A rehearsal-room clip of a riff being built, with TABS for the chords.
- A teaser of the new single with the final chorus cut off, with PRESAVE.
- A Story the morning of a show with TICKETS and the door time in the text.
- A merch table photo or a shirt flat-lay with a price tag, and MERCH for what's in stock.
- A set you played at a wedding or a corporate party, with the organiser's consent, and BOOK for the details.
Private-event enquiries often come in the months before the busiest season for weddings and parties where you live, and release weeks pull in pre-save comments. Set the words up before a release, and test each by commenting from a second account.
From a clip to a booking, a ticket or a sale
- Pick one word per goal: GIGS for dates, BOOK for events, PRESAVE for a release. One word per goal keeps the replies from mixing.
- Ask one question in the first DM. A city, an event type or a ticket count tells you what to send next.
- Offer the free live recording or the tabs for an email. The CSV export is your mailing list for the next tour.
- Change the card after each show. A card pointing to last month's date looks like a band that has gone quiet.
- For a booking, reply yourself once the date, place and event type arrive. DMFast sends no contracts, so confirm in writing how you will agree it.
A musician in India can use the DMFast store to sell a tab book or sample pack as a digital product, give away a track for an email and take paid 1-on-1 lesson calls, with payments through Razorpay. Gigs and merch run through your own ticket page and shop.
Music rights, fan data and other things to watch
- Playing someone else's song in a clip can run into copyright rules, and those differ by platform and country. Posting your own songs, or music from the platform's own library, is the safer route.
- Tabs and chord sheets for your own songs are yours to give away. For other writers' songs, check whether you need permission before you share a transcription.
- Younger fans write to bands too. Some countries restrict collecting data from children, so keep the capture to an email address and check the rules where you are.
- Gigs streamed on Instagram Live can only get a private reply to a comment while the Live is still going, so set GIGS up before you press go.
- Don't promise a booking, a fee or a date in an automated message. Venues change, and a misquote on a tour poster is hard to take back.
Messages to copy
Questions people ask
Can the first message include a ticket link?
Not when someone comments. Instagram allows plain text only in the first message to a commenter, so the DM asks a question and the ticket card follows once they answer. Someone who replies to a Story or messages you has already written first, so the card can go straight after.
What happens when old gig dates are still in the message?
They go on being sent, so edit the card after each show or switch the word off. If you add a line like “dates change, see the page” and keep the dates on the card page, you only have one place to update, not the whole message.
Can it answer questions I haven't set a word for?
On the Growth and Business plans, AI replies can answer other messages using only the information you write, such as set length, travel area and the shop address. Anything missing from that information gets a reply saying that someone from the band will answer.
Does it work when we stream a gig on Live?
Yes, with a limit. Comments made during an Instagram Live can only receive a private reply while the Live is still running. Fans who comment after you finish can't be answered that way, so announce the word out loud during the set.
