When is the best time to post on Facebook?
There is no agreed best time to post on Facebook. Buffer’s 2026 study of 14 million posts found Thursday at 9 a.m. strongest and afternoons weakest, while Sprout Social’s 2026 data put the peak at 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Your Page’s own audience is the tiebreaker.
Studies checked
Short answer
The studies split. Buffer and Hootsuite mostly favour weekday mornings; Sprout Social favours Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Test both on your Page.

Where the numbers come from
Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. were the best times. Monday peaked from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and at 8 p.m., and Friday around midday. Saturday had no peak, and Sunday engagement was low throughout.
Sample: About 307,000 profiles from 30,000+ customers, Nov 27, 2025 to Feb 27, 2026sproutsocial.com
Thursday at 9 a.m. was the single best time and Wednesday the best day. Saturday was the worst day, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. brought the lowest engagement. Five of seven days had their top slot between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.; Monday’s and Saturday’s were 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

The best time was 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Other days peaked early too, at 6 a.m. from Wednesday to Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday, with Monday the exception at 5 p.m. The report also gives separate windows for 13 industries.

Find your own best time
Studies pool many accounts at once. When your own followers are online matters more, and your insights show it.
- Open Meta Business Suite for your Page and start scheduling a post.
- Choose Active times to see when Meta expects your audience to be online. It needs some history first.
- Post a little before those times, and keep that slot for a few weeks.
- Compare each post’s reach and engagement in Insights, then try another slot.
Why Facebook studies contradict each other
The clash is stark. Sprout Social’s best hours on Tuesday and Wednesday run from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., while Buffer’s data marks 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. as the weakest part of the day. Hootsuite’s top slot, 5 a.m. on Tuesday, is earlier than anything Sprout Social recommends.
Some of the gap comes from what each one counted. Buffer ranked 14 million posts by engagement: reactions, comments and shares. Sprout Social counted engagements between late November 2025 and late February 2026, a sample that spans the December holidays. Hootsuite’s Facebook report came out in November 2025, which makes it the oldest of the three. Each one blends thousands of Pages with different audiences, and no study can see who follows your Page.
Tip: Don’t pick the study you like best. Take one slot from each and test them against each other on your Page.
Find when your Page’s audience is online
Sprout Social’s 2026 guide points to the Planner in Meta Business Suite, where an Active times view shows when your audience was online over the past seven days. Meta often renames and moves Business Suite menus, so if you can’t see it for your Page, work from your own post results instead.
Treat the seven-day view with care. A holiday week or one post that spreads widely can distort it, so look at it across two or three ordinary weeks before you plan around it.
Your post history is the other source. Go through your last 20 or 30 posts, note the day, hour and reach of each, and see whether the best ones cluster. A cluster in your own data beats any industry average.
A four-week test for your Page
Pick slots the studies disagree about and give each a fair run. Post in every slot once a week for four weeks, rotate the content type between slots so the format doesn’t decide the result, and record each post’s numbers three days after it goes up.
| Slot | Why test it |
|---|---|
| Thursday, 9 a.m. | Buffer’s single best time |
| Tuesday or Wednesday, 1 p.m. | Inside Sprout Social’s peak and inside Buffer’s weakest hours, so it tests the main disagreement |
| A weekday at 6 a.m. | Hootsuite’s pattern for most days of the week |
| Your own Active times peak | What your audience actually did in recent weeks |
Tip: Compare reactions, comments and shares per person reached, not raw totals. A post that reached twice as many people will usually collect more of everything.
Reading the times for your audience
All three studies report local time. Sprout Social lists its times in local time, Buffer says its recommended times need no conversion, and Hootsuite localised its data across 118 countries. So use the clock where most of your Page’s followers live, not the one on your desk.
Pages with followers in two countries need one more step. A shop selling to both the UAE and India could post at 9 a.m. in Dubai, which is 10:30 a.m. in India. Both are morning slots, and neither country changes its clocks, so the gap stays the same all year.
What the Facebook studies leave out
Neither Buffer’s nor Hootsuite’s Facebook study gives separate times for Reels, and Hootsuite’s doesn’t cover Groups either. If most of your reach comes from Reels or a Group, test those on their own instead of borrowing Page post times. Hootsuite does split its data by industry, with separate windows for 13 industries that differ from one to the next, which is one more reason to trust your own numbers over a headline time.
Questions people ask
What is the best day to post on Facebook?
Wednesday in Buffer’s 2026 data, and Monday to Thursday in Sprout Social’s, with Tuesday and Wednesday strongest. Both rate the weekend poorly: Buffer ranked Saturday last, and Sprout Social found no Saturday peak and low engagement on Sunday.
Is the afternoon a bad time to post on Facebook?
Buffer’s study says so: 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. had its lowest engagement. Sprout Social’s says the reverse for midweek, with peaks from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. Test an afternoon slot against a morning one to see which holds for your Page.
Is the best time the same on Facebook and Instagram?
Not quite. Thursday at 9 a.m. tops Buffer’s list on both, and Sprout Social’s midweek afternoon peaks look alike. But Buffer’s Facebook data rates 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. weakest, while 12 p.m. on Wednesday is one of its best Instagram slots. Check each platform’s audience separately.
Does it matter if nobody can reply right after I post?
Comments can wait a little: a public reply has no deadline, and a private reply to a comment can be sent within 7 days of it. Messages are stricter. Meta’s rules let a Page reply through the Messenger Platform within 24 hours of a person’s last message, and the human agent tag stretches that to 7 days for support by real people, not marketing. Pick slots where someone checks the inbox that day.
