Best time to post on Facebook on Wednesday

On a Wednesday, post at 8 a.m. or 9 a.m., or in the early evening, by your audience’s clock. Buffer and CoSchedule both rank 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. among Wednesday’s best hours. Sprout Social’s Wednesday peak runs from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. instead, and the early evening is where all three meet: Buffer’s 6 p.m. and CoSchedule’s 7 p.m. both fall inside it.

Where the numbers come from

Sample: More than 14 million Facebook posts, compared by median engagementbuffer.com

  • Wednesday ranked second of the seven days, after Friday. Its best Wednesday hours, in order, were 9 a.m., 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. The page gives no sample size or date range for the research behind them.

Find your own best time

Studies pool many accounts at once. When your own followers are online matters more, and your insights show it.

  1. Open Meta Business Suite for your Page and start scheduling a post.
  2. Choose Active times to see when Meta expects your audience to be online. It needs some history first.
  3. Post a little before those times, and keep that slot for a few weeks.
  4. Compare each post’s reach and engagement in Insights, then try another slot.

How Wednesday ranks in each study

Of the seven days, Wednesday gets the most consistent marks. Buffer names it the best day of the week, CoSchedule puts it second behind Friday, and Sprout Social counts it among its four strongest days, Monday to Thursday. Where the studies part ways is the hour.

StudyBest Wednesday timesWhat it says about Wednesday
Buffer, 20268 a.m., 9 a.m., 6 p.m.The best day of the week
CoSchedule, 20269 a.m., 7 a.m., 10 a.m., 8 a.m., 7 p.m.Second-best day, after Friday
Sprout Social, 202612 p.m. to 8 p.m.One of its four strongest days
Hootsuite, 20256 a.m.Same hour as Thursday, Friday and Saturday

The midday split

The real argument is over the middle of the day. Sprout Social’s Wednesday window opens at noon and runs until 8 p.m. Buffer found that engagement drops in the afternoon, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and CoSchedule’s five Wednesday hours skip everything from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. A post at 1 p.m. lands in Sprout Social’s peak and in Buffer’s slump at the same time.

The early evening brings them back together. Buffer’s third Wednesday hour, 6 p.m., and CoSchedule’s fifth, 7 p.m., both sit inside Sprout Social’s window. Mornings have a case of their own: 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. appear on both Buffer’s and CoSchedule’s lists, and Hootsuite goes earlier still, at 6 a.m.

Different samples explain some of the gap. Sprout Social’s figures cover late November 2025 to late February 2026, a stretch that includes the year-end holidays. Buffer ranked more than 14 million Facebook posts by median engagement. CoSchedule doesn’t say how many posts it studied or from when, so read its list as one more view, not a tiebreaker.

Wednesday windows by industry

Sprout Social and Hootsuite both split their Facebook data by industry, and Wednesday appears in both. Where they cover the same field, the windows sometimes line up and sometimes miss each other.

IndustrySprout Social, 2026Hootsuite, 2025
Financial services10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.3 p.m.
Nonprofits10 a.m. to 6 p.m.10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Monday to Wednesday)
Retail and consumer goods9 a.m. to 2 p.m.8 a.m. to 10 a.m. (Wednesday to Saturday)
Software and technology8 a.m. to 11 a.m.12 p.m.
Government11 a.m. to 6 p.m.No Wednesday slot
Education10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; 6 p.m.No Wednesday slot
Healthcare9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.No Wednesday slot
Travel and hospitality10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; 3 p.m.No Wednesday slot

Finance and nonprofits agree: Hootsuite’s 3 p.m. for financial services falls inside Sprout Social’s 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and its nonprofit hours sit within Sprout Social’s. Retail overlaps only from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Technology is the clean miss, with Sprout Social’s window closing at 11 a.m., an hour before Hootsuite’s noon slot.

Check your own Wednesday first

Your followers may not behave like any of these samples. Sprout Social’s guide describes a free check in Meta Business Suite: open the Planner, start a post, choose Schedule, then Active times, which shows when your followers were most active on Facebook over the last seven days. Seven days always contain exactly one Wednesday, so if last Wednesday was a public holiday, look again a week later.

  1. Choose two Wednesday slots: 8 a.m., which Buffer and CoSchedule share, and 6 p.m., inside Sprout Social’s window.
  2. Alternate them for six Wednesdays, so each slot gets three posts of a similar kind.
  3. Two days after each post, divide its reactions, comments and shares by the number of people it reached.
  4. Keep the winner, then test it against the busiest hour in your Active times if that is a different one.

Whose Wednesday counts

All four studies report times in the audience’s local time. Buffer says its times need no converting, and CoSchedule tells readers to use their main audience’s time zone. So a seller in India whose buyers are mostly in Singapore should post at 8 a.m. Singapore time, which is 5:30 a.m. in India. Neither country changes its clocks, so the gap of two and a half hours holds all year.

Questions people ask

Is Wednesday the best day to post on Facebook?

In Buffer’s 2026 data, yes. CoSchedule ranks it second, after Friday, and Sprout Social puts it with Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as its strongest days. None of the studies that rank days puts Wednesday in the bottom half.

Is 6 a.m. on a Wednesday too early to post?

Hootsuite picks 6 a.m., but it picks the same hour for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, so it says little about Wednesday itself. CoSchedule’s second-best Wednesday hour, 7 a.m., is close by. Try an early slot if your Active times show followers online before work.

How late can I post on a Wednesday?

None of the Wednesday times in these studies is later than 8 p.m. Sprout Social’s window closes then, CoSchedule’s latest Wednesday hour is 7 p.m. and Buffer’s is 6 p.m. A later post isn’t ruled out; there is just no data here to support it.

Is Wednesday better than Thursday for Facebook?

Buffer makes Wednesday the best day but gives Thursday the best single hour, 9 a.m. CoSchedule ranks Wednesday second and Thursday fifth. Sprout Social rates both highly, with a longer peak on Wednesday (12 p.m. to 8 p.m.) than on Thursday (12 p.m. to 2 p.m., then 8 p.m.).
