The best time to post Facebook Reels

Of the studies we read, only Dash Social’s analysis of 2024 posts gives Facebook Reels a result of their own: 9 p.m. was the best time, and 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. from Monday to Thursday the strongest window. Studies that blend every format point elsewhere, from Thursday at 9 a.m. to midweek afternoons, so treat 9 p.m. as a slot to test rather than a rule.

Where the numbers come from

  • The one study here with a Reels result. Facebook Reels did best at 9 p.m., on Monday to Thursday, and in the 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. window, ranked by engagement rate. Its best time for all Facebook posts was also 9 p.m. The article dates from November 2025 and was updated in January 2026, but the posts it analysed are from 2024.

Sample: 1.4 million posts from over 1,000 beauty, retail, publishing and fashion brands, Jan to Dec 2024dashsocial.com

  • Gives no times by format. Across all its Facebook posts, Thursday at 9 a.m. was the best slot, Wednesday the best day and Saturday the worst, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. had the lowest engagement. Buffer notes that photos generally perform best and suggests trying Reels and other formats on your own audience.

Sample: 14 million Facebook posts sent through Buffer by businesses, creators and influencersbuffer.com

  • No split by format. For Facebook overall, Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. were the peak, Thursday peaked from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and at 8 p.m., and the weekend had no peak. It pictures people scrolling and watching Reels in those hours but gives no Reels figures.

Find your own best time

Studies pool many accounts at once. When your own followers are online matters more, and your insights show it.

  1. Open Meta Business Suite for your Page and start scheduling a post.
  2. Choose Active times to see when Meta expects your audience to be online. It needs some history first.
  3. Post a little before those times, and keep that slot for a few weeks.
  4. Compare each post’s reach and engagement in Insights, then try another slot.

Step by step: How to test Reels times on your Page

What the Reels number rests on

Most timing studies pour every Facebook format into one result. Dash Social is the exception among the studies we read, and its sample sets the limits on how far you can stretch it: about 1.4 million posts from more than 1,000 brands, all in beauty, retail, publishing or fashion, all published in 2024, ranked by engagement rate.

So 9 p.m. is a fair first guess for a consumer brand with a following like those. It says much less about a dentist, a software company or a local council, whose viewers may keep different hours. Buffer’s and Sprout Social’s Facebook studies give no Reels split at all, so their times cover every kind of post together.

Evening or morning: where the studies part ways

Dash Social’s evening lean isn’t special to Reels. Its best time for all Facebook posts is also 9 p.m., and its Monday-to-Thursday picks sit late as well: 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday, 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Tuesday, 9 p.m. on Wednesday and 10 p.m. on Thursday. So the Reels result may say as much about who follows those brands as about the format.

Buffer’s data tilts toward mornings. On Tuesday to Friday, and on Sunday, its top slot falls between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and it calls 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. the weakest part of the day. Sprout Social lands in between, with Tuesday and Wednesday peaks that start at 12 p.m. and run to 8 p.m.

Tip: Monday at 9 p.m. and Thursday at 8 p.m. are the hours where a Reels result and an all-posts result agree. That makes them good first tests, not proof: every study here measured other people’s Pages.

How to test Reels times on your Page

  1. Pick two slots: one evening slot from the table and Thursday at 9 a.m.
  2. Alternate them for four to six weeks with Reels of a similar length and subject, so the clock is the main thing that changes.
  3. Schedule the late or early ones in Meta Business Suite instead of staying up to post by hand.
  4. Compare every Reel at the same age, for example seven days after it went up, because a Reel can keep collecting views well after its first day.
  5. Weigh views, average watch time, shares and comments, not likes alone, and keep the slot that wins across several Reels rather than once.

Expect noise. A single Reel that Facebook starts recommending widely can outdo a month of others, whatever time it went out. That is why several Reels per slot tell you more than one striking result.

Your audience chart only covers followers

For your own followers’ hours, Sprout Social’s guide sends you to Meta Business Suite: in the Planner, the Active times option charts when followers were online during the previous seven days. Use it to sanity-check any slot you pick.

Reels add a wrinkle. Facebook also recommends Reels to people who don’t follow your Page, and their habits never appear in a chart of your followers. If your followers peak at 9 p.m. and Dash Social points there too, test that first. If they peak at lunchtime, add a 12 p.m. slot and let the Reels results decide.

All three studies report local time. Dash Social localises post times so they fit your time zone, Buffer tells readers in EST, PST and IST alike to use its times as they are, and Sprout Social lists local times. If most of your followers live in one country, read 9 p.m. as 9 p.m. on their clock.

Questions people ask

Is 9 p.m. really the best time to post Reels on Facebook?

It was in Dash Social’s 2024 data, the only study we read with a Facebook Reels result of its own. Buffer and Sprout Social don’t split out Reels, and their all-post results favour weekday mornings and midweek afternoons. Treat 9 p.m. as one of two or three slots to test.

Which day is best for Facebook Reels?

Dash Social found Monday to Thursday the strongest days for Reels, which leaves Friday and the weekend behind in its data. For all posts, Buffer rated Wednesday best and Saturday worst, and Sprout Social saw no weekend peak. If your audience is busiest at the weekend, test a Saturday or Sunday Reel anyway.

Should Facebook Reels go out at the same time as Instagram Reels?

Not automatically. They are separate apps with separate audiences and separate studies, and a Reel shared to both can do well on one and poorly on the other. Check each app’s own results before you settle on one time for both.

My Reel asks viewers to comment a keyword. Does the posting time matter more?

It decides when the comments arrive. Post at 9 p.m. and requests may land late into the night. Meta lets a Page send one private reply per comment within 7 days of it, so answering the next morning is allowed, but a reply that comes while people are still watching is more useful. Pick a slot when someone, or an automatic reply, can respond.

How many Reels do I need before I trust a result?

Aim for at least three or four Reels in each slot over four to six weeks. Reach swings a lot from one Reel to the next, so a test with fewer posts can crown a winner by luck.
