Best time to post on Facebook in India
Read the big studies’ times as IST. They report the audience’s local time, and Buffer says its times apply as they are whether you are on EST, PST or IST, which makes Thursday at 9 a.m. IST its best slot. None of the studies we read has India-only figures, so treat these as a starting point and let your Page’s Active times decide.
Studies checked
Short answer
Read study times as IST: Thursday 9 a.m. is Buffer’s best, Tuesday and Wednesday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sprout Social’s. None has India-only data, so check your Active times.

| Weakest day | Saturday (Buffer); Sunday (Sprout Social) | Buffer and Sprout Social, 2026 |
Times are in the audience’s local time zone unless a row says otherwise.
Where the numbers come from
Says its recommended times apply as they are whether you are on EST, PST or IST. Thursday at 9 a.m. was the best time, Wednesday the best day and Saturday the worst, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. had the lowest engagement. It gives no breakdown by country.

Lists every time in the audience’s local time and says routines such as lunch breaks and scrolling after work are similar wherever people live. Tuesday and Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. were best; Saturday had no peak and Sunday was the worst day. It has no India-specific data.

Localised its data across 118 countries and gave separate windows for ten time zones, from Pacific to Japan Standard Time; India Standard Time is not one of them. Its Arabia Standard Time picks were 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 2 p.m. on Thursday and 4 p.m. on Friday.

Find your own best time
Studies pool many accounts at once. When your own followers are online matters more, and your insights show it.
- Open Meta Business Suite for your Page and start scheduling a post.
- Choose Active times to see when Meta expects your audience to be online. It needs some history first.
- Post a little before those times, and keep that slot for a few weeks.
- Compare each post’s reach and engagement in Insights, then try another slot.
Why studies made abroad still work on IST
All three big studies report times in the audience’s own clock. Buffer says its recommended times apply whether you are on EST, PST or IST. Sprout Social lists everything in local time and argues that daily routines, such as lunch breaks and scrolling after work, look alike wherever people live. Hootsuite localised its data across 118 countries.
None of them answers for India alone. Buffer gives no country breakdown, Sprout Social has no India figures, and Hootsuite, which does break out ten time zones, leaves India Standard Time off the list. A Page with Indian followers is reading a global average on an Indian clock.
Tip: Plenty of pages quote exact IST windows for India without saying where the numbers came from. If a source names no sample and no method, treat its times as a guess.
The study windows on an Indian clock
| Study | Best slots, read as IST | Weakest |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer, 2026 | Thu 9 a.m. (best); top slots between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on five days of the week | 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday |
| Sprout Social, 2026 | Tue and Wed 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Mon 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.; Thu 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. | Saturday (no peak); Sunday (worst day) |
| Hootsuite, 2025 | Tue 5 a.m.; Wed to Sat 6 a.m.; Sun 8 a.m.; Mon 5 p.m. | None given |
The clash that matters most is lunchtime. Sprout Social’s best midweek stretch starts at 12 p.m., while Buffer’s data makes 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. the weakest part of the day. A 1 p.m. IST post sits on both sides of that argument, so test it against 9 a.m. before you build a routine around either.
Hootsuite is the early riser of the three: most of its daily picks are 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. Few offices in India are open then, so if you try those hours, schedule the post and make sure messages that arrive before work starts get a reply.
Followers abroad: post on their clock
If your Page also serves followers in the Gulf, the UK, North America or Southeast Asia, schedule by their clock. IST stays at UTC+5:30 all year, so the gap only moves when the other country changes its clocks.
| Followers in | Gap to IST | Their 7 p.m. in IST |
|---|---|---|
| UAE and Oman | 1 hour 30 minutes behind, all year | 8:30 p.m. |
| Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain | 2 hours 30 minutes behind, all year | 9:30 p.m. |
| Singapore and Malaysia | 2 hours 30 minutes ahead, all year | 4:30 p.m. |
| UK | 4 h 30 min behind from late March to late October, 5 h 30 min in winter | 11:30 p.m., or 12:30 a.m. the next day in winter |
| US East Coast and Toronto | 9 h 30 min behind from mid-March to early November, 10 h 30 min in winter | 4:30 a.m. the next day, or 5:30 a.m. in winter |
| Sydney and Melbourne | 4 h 30 min ahead, 5 h 30 min from early October to early April | 2:30 p.m., or 1:30 p.m. in their summer |
Hootsuite’s Arabia Standard Time picks show the conversion. Its slots for that zone, 3 p.m. on Tuesday, 2 p.m. on Thursday and 4 p.m. on Friday, are 5:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. in IST. Arabia Standard Time is the clock in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain; the UAE and Oman run an hour ahead of it.
For the US, its Eastern picks of 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday land in the early hours of Tuesday and Thursday in India: 4:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. IST while the US is on daylight time, an hour later in its winter. Schedule those posts rather than setting an alarm.
Find your Page’s own peak
- In Meta Business Suite, choose your Page and open Planner.
- Click Create, then Schedule, and pick Active times to see when your followers were most active over the past seven days.
- In Business Suite’s audience insights, check your followers’ top cities and countries. If a large share lives abroad, plan a second slot on their clock.
- Repeat the check over three or four ordinary weeks, because a single week can contain a festival or a public holiday.
Active times tells you when followers were online, not when they reacted, commented or shared. Use it to choose slots to test rather than as the final answer.
Test around the Indian calendar
A month-long test goes wrong if one of the weeks isn’t ordinary. Diwali week, a long weekend, exam season for a student audience or a big cricket match can all change when people scroll, so leave those days out or run the test again later.
- Pick the slots the studies disagree on: Thursday 9 a.m. IST (Buffer’s best) and Wednesday 1 p.m. IST (inside Sprout Social’s peak and Buffer’s weak afternoon).
- Add your Active times peak as a third slot.
- Post similar content in each slot once a week for four weeks.
- Two or three days after each post, compare reactions, comments and shares per person reached.
Tip: If a post invites questions in Messenger, plan the replies too. Replies through Meta’s Messenger Platform, which chatbots use, must go out within 24 hours of the person’s last message, so a question sent at 9 p.m. IST has to be answered by 9 p.m. the next day.
Questions people ask
What is the best time to post on Facebook in India?
No big study gives an India-only answer, so start with their local-time picks read as IST: Thursday at 9 a.m. (Buffer), Tuesday or Wednesday between 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. (Sprout Social), or early morning on most days, 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. (Hootsuite). Then check your Page’s Active times and test the slots that match.
Do I need to convert US study times to IST?
Not when your followers are in India. The studies report local time, and Buffer says plainly that its times hold on IST as they are. Convert only when you post for followers in another country, using their clock.
Does India change its clocks for daylight saving?
No. IST is UTC+5:30 all year. The UK, the US, Canada and parts of Australia such as Sydney and Melbourne do change, so the gap to them moves in March, April, October and November. Check posts scheduled for followers there around those dates.
What time should I post for followers in Dubai?
Dubai runs 1 hour 30 minutes behind IST all year, so 7 p.m. there is 8:30 p.m. in India. Hootsuite’s Arabia Standard Time slots come from the UTC+3 zone of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain, which the UAE isn’t part of, so treat them as a rough guide for Dubai and check your own Active times.
Is the weekend a good time to post on Facebook in India?
The studies lean against it. Buffer ranks Saturday last, and Sprout Social finds no Saturday peak and calls Sunday the worst day. The exception is Sunday morning: Buffer’s best Sunday hours run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and Hootsuite picks 8 a.m. If your customers browse at weekends, test one of those in IST.
