Usernames for couples
Most couple usernames do one of three things: join both first names with and, blend the two names into one word, or name something you do together. The best ones are still easy to say when a friend asks for your handle. Below are 79 ideas, recipes for your own names, and what to settle before you open a joint account.

Tips for picking a username
Settle the order of names once. Alphabetical ends the argument, and whichever order you pick, say it the same way every time, so friends who heard “maya and dev” don’t go looking for dev.and.maya.
A shared year means a lot to you two and looks like four random digits to everyone else. Put “since 2019” or the wedding date in the bio, which you can edit any time, and keep the handle to words.
Think twice before using a surname. A family name, a wedding date and a town together tell strangers a lot, so on a public account first names or a phrase are the safer choice.
Agree now on what happens if things change. An account can’t be split in two: one of you keeps it and renames it, or you archive the posts or delete it together. That talk is far easier before there are years of photos on the grid.
Before announcing it, have one of you search the name in Instagram while the other opens instagram.com/ plus the name on a laptop. A profile on either means it’s gone. A blank result still needs a final try in Edit profile, which turns down names that deactivated accounts are holding.
Questions people ask
Should we share one account or keep our own?
A joint account suits couples who post as a pair: travel, cooking, a wedding countdown. If you each post plenty on your own, keep separate accounts and use Instagram’s Collab posts for the shared moments. A Collab post appears on both profiles and shares one set of likes and comments, so nobody has to repost.
How do we blend our names into one username?
Take the start of one name and add the other name, or its ending, then try it both ways round and say each version aloud. Rohan and Mira can become romira or mihan. Keep the one that sounds like a real word, and search it to make sure it isn’t already a brand.
What if every version with our names is taken?
Change the joining word before you add numbers. And, n, plus and with all read naturally, so sana.n.omar and sana.with.omar are two different handles. The month you met or a hobby you share works too, and says more about you than digits ever could.
Can we both use the account on our own phones?
Yes. Log in on both phones with the same details; the Instagram app can hold several accounts and switch between them, so the joint one sits next to your personal accounts. Turn on two-factor authentication and make sure both of you can reach the email or phone number it uses.
