Instagram auto-replies for podcasters

A podcaster posts a clip of the best minute, and the comments ask where to hear the rest. Instagram DM automation answers each commenter with a question about where they listen, then sends the episode, the transcript or your guest guidelines. Audio shows stay in the apps they live in; the inbox gets sorted.

Comment words for podcasters

Ask people to comment one word in your caption or video. Each word sends something different.

EPISODE
The full episode behind a clip, with the page that lists every app and site where it plays, so listeners pick their own.
TRANSCRIPT
The written text of an episode with timestamps, for readers, for people who are deaf or hard of hearing and for anyone on a noisy train.
GUEST
The links, book or offer of the person you interviewed this week, so their audience and yours can find each other.
PITCH
How you choose guests: the topics you cover, the length of a recording and what you want to see in a pitch before you reply.
SPONSOR
Your ad formats, how many slots an episode has and the download range per episode, taken from your hosting stats.
TICKETS
Date, venue and booking details for a live recording, for fans who commented on the announcement.
QUESTION
A short form for listeners who want a question answered on the show, with a note on how names are used.

4 set-ups to try

Each one shows the conversation it creates. After a comment, the first DM is plain text, as Meta requires, and the link follows once they answer.

  • Episode link from an audio clip Reel

    Someone comments on your post

    EPISODE

    Public reply under their comment

Glad it landed, the episode is in your DMs 🎧

    First DM (plain text)

Thanks for listening to the clip. Which app do you normally play podcasts in? Reply and I'll send the page that lists where the full episode is, so you can open it in yours.Yes pleaseListen to the full episodeChoose your app

Audiogram viewers are watching without sound or in a queue, and a link in the caption doesn't work for them. A listening-apps page spares you from picking one service, and the question tells you how people actually listen.

  • Guest pitches by DM

PITCHThanks for wanting to come on the show. What is the one topic you could talk about for forty minutes, and why would our listeners care? Reply and I'll send how we choose guests. How to pitch the showRead the guidelines

Hosts get pitches in DMs from publicists and from fans with a book. Asking for one topic first removes copy-pasted introductions, and the guidelines page says what you cover and how long a recording takes. Add GUEST and BOOKING to the same auto-reply.

  • Transcript request from a quote Story

    Replied to your story

TRANSCRIPTThanks for replying to the quote. Do you want the full transcript of the episode, or just the notes with the links we mentioned? Reply with one and I'll send it.Episode transcript with timestampsRead the text

People who reply to a Story already follow you, and a transcript is a small thing to give. It also serves listeners who can't hear audio. Share only text you own, and edit out anything a guest asked you to cut.

  • A start-here list for new listeners who tag the show

    Mentioned you in their story

Thanks for the tag, it means a lot. Are you new to the show? Reply yes and I'll send the five episodes I'd listen to first, so you don't have to start at episode one.Start here: five episodesSee the list

A listener who tags a show has just recommended it to their own followers. A thank-you with a short, ordered list helps their friends who click through to know where to begin, which is the hardest part of a back catalogue.

Freebies worth commenting for

What listeners, guests and sponsors send a podcaster

A podcast's audience is spread across listening apps, and almost nobody on Instagram is in one when they see a clip. Messages tend to fall into four groups, and only some need you.

Where can I listen? The EPISODE card with every listening appThey say the episode isn't in their app

Posts that earn comments for an audio show

  • An audiogram of the single best answer from the week, with captions burned in and EPISODE in the text. Cut it where the listener wants more.
  • A quote card with TRANSCRIPT, using words the guest agreed to be quoted on.
  • A photo of the recording desk with GUEST and a note on who sat there.
  • An announcement of a live recording with TICKETS, posted when you open sales and again a week before.
  • A Story box asking for listener questions, with QUESTION in the prompt for a mailbag episode.

Tip: Always ask a guest before you publish a clip of them, and read the clip back to them if it changes the meaning. Many guests are glad to share it, and the ones who say no are rarely the ones you want to lose.

Handling guest requests without losing the inbox

  1. PITCH asks for one topic and sends the guidelines, so you read short, relevant answers instead of a wall of introductions.
  2. Export the emails that come in as a CSV if you use email capture, and keep a plain spreadsheet of who you have said yes or no to.
  3. Reply yourself to anyone whose topic fits. Use the single reminder for people who started the pitch and stopped.
  4. Never promise a slot in the automatic message. A booking is your decision, and publicists tend to forward auto-replies as a promise.

Selling a bonus episode or a workbook from India? The DMFast store can sell it as a digital product and take bookings for 1-on-1 calls, paid through Razorpay with no DMFast fee on sales. Elsewhere, point the card at your own page.

Things to check before you switch it on

  • Music and clips. A short clip of a guest's voice or of music played on the show can have different rights from the full episode. Check your permissions.
  • Reviews and ratings. Don't offer prizes or access in exchange for a rating. Many listening apps prohibit it, so read the rules of the ones you use.
  • Honest numbers. Only quote download figures from your hosting statistics, with the period they cover. Sponsors usually ask to see them.
  • Sensitive shows. If your show covers health, law or money, keep the automated replies to logistics and say on the page that it isn't advice.
  • Meta's limits. One private reply per comment within 7 days, and at most 750 an hour on Instagram. DMFast stays under 700.

Questions people ask

Can the first DM include a link to the episode?

Not for a comment. Instagram allows plain text only in the first message to a commenter, so ask a question, such as where they listen. When they reply, the card with the link follows. For Story replies and DMs, the person wrote first, so the card can come at once.

Does it work with comments in a podcast app?

No. DMFast works with Instagram professional accounts and Facebook Pages, so a word has to be used on your own Instagram or Facebook posts. It cannot read reviews or comments inside a listening app, or reply to them.

Can I send every listener a note when an episode comes out?

Not through Instagram. Official tools don't send mass DMs, and automated messages go only to people who wrote to you in the last 24 hours. Post the new episode as a Story with a word, and everyone who answers gets the link.

Will it pick which guests to accept?

No. It sends the same guidelines to everyone who uses the word, and email capture collects addresses you can export. The decision is yours. On the Growth and Business plans, AI replies can answer simple questions about the show from the information you write.

Can a co-host run it with me?

The Business plan includes 5 seats and 10 accounts, which suits a show with several people or a network. Decide whose Instagram account the replies come from, since people will answer the name they see in the thread.
