Send the link to everyone who comments for it

A comment-for-link post asks people to comment a word, such as LINK, and sends each of them the link by DM. On Instagram that takes three messages: a short public reply under the comment, a plain-text first DM asking them to answer, and the link once they do. Here is wording for each step, from the caption to the message for an offer that has ended.

  • Caption line for a post

Want the full list? Comment LINK below and I'll send it straight to your DMs.

Name the exact word, in capitals. “Comment below for the link” gets “me!”, “🙋” and “send”, and none of those match a keyword.

  • Caption line for a Reel

Comment GUIDE and I'll DM it to you. Not in your inbox? Have a look in your message requests.

If someone doesn't follow you, the DM may land in their message requests. Saying so up front saves a stream of “didn't get it” comments.

  • Public reply: sent

Sent! Have a look in your DMs 📩

Write three or four versions. DMFast picks one at random for each comment, so the thread doesn't fill up with the same line.

  • Public reply: check your requests

It's in your DMs now. Can't see it? Try your message requests.

Worth using on Reels that reach lots of people who don't follow you yet.

  • First DM, plain and simple

Hi! Thanks for commenting LINK. This DM is automatic, and the link is ready for you. Reply with anything, even just “yes”, and I'll send it over.

It can't hold the link, so its only job is to get an answer. Telling people that any reply works lowers the bar even further.

  • First DM for a product

Hey, thanks for your comment on the {product} post! This message is automatic. Would you like the link with sizes and the price? Reply YES and it's yours.

Saying what's behind the link, sizes and the price, gives people a reason to answer.

  • First DM in a casual creator voice

ahh thank you for commenting 🥹 this DM is automatic but the link is real, reply yes and it's coming your way

Lowercase and emoji suit some creators. Whatever the voice, the question stays at the end.

  • Link message after their answer

Here it is: {link} It's the same link as in the post, saved here so you can find it again later. Any questions, ask me right here.

In DMFast this goes out as a card with a button, and taps are counted, so you can see which posts send people to the link.

  • Only for followers

Almost there! This one's for followers, so follow the account and then tap “I followed” below. The link comes as soon as you do.

Instagram only, and a paid DMFast option. Every extra step loses some people, so save it for links they really want.

  • One reminder if they stop

Still want the link? Follow the account, then tap the button below and it's yours.

On paid plans, DMFast sends one reminder like this if someone stops at the follow or email step, timed to land inside the 24 hours. One is plenty.

  • When the offer has ended

    Sorry, the {offer} has finished. The next one starts on {date}, and you can sign up for it now: {link}

Change the auto-reply's link when an offer ends. Old posts keep getting comments long after you've moved on.

  • Comment without the word, by hand

Want it? Comment the word LINK on its own and the DM will find you.

For comments like “me please” or “🙋” that no keyword will catch. Keep it light; nobody likes being corrected in public.

  • Missed comment, sent by hand

    Hi! Sorry I missed your comment on the {topic} post. Here's the link you asked for: {link}

After 7 days a tool can't answer the comment any more, but you can still message the person yourself from the Instagram app.

First DM (plain text)

Thanks for the comment! You're getting this DM automatically, and the link from the post is ready to send. Want it here? Answer YES, or anything at all, and it'll follow.Yes pleaseThe link from the postOpen the link

Instagram allows one private message per comment, in plain text, until the person writes back. So the first DM only asks a question, and any reply counts. Their answer opens 24 hours for the card, and taps on its button are tracked.

  1. Pick a post

Connect your Instagram account, then choose the post or Reel it runs on, or every post.

  2. Set the word: LINK

Anyone who comments LINK gets a reply under their comment and a DM. Capitals don't matter.

  3. Paste the message

Add the public reply and the first DM shown here. Once they answer, your link follows as a card.

Rules to know

  1. Each comment can get one private reply, sent within 7 days of the comment. The 7 days start at the comment, not the post, so a new comment on an old post still qualifies.
  2. Until the person answers, that private reply is the only message you can send. Their answer opens a 24-hour window for the link and anything else.
  3. A comment posted during a Live broadcast has to be answered before the Live ends; after that, no private reply is possible.
  4. An account can send at most 750 private replies to comments an hour. DMFast stays under 700 and queues the rest, which still go out within the 7 days.
  5. Automated DMs have to make clear that they're automated.
  6. Only Business and Creator accounts can send private replies through Meta's API.

Why not just write “link in bio”? A link in the DM is one tap away and stays in their inbox, while a bio link sends people to your profile, often to hunt through a list. The DM route also tells you who wanted it, and a bio link can't.

Choosing the word people comment

  • Pick a word nobody types by accident. LINK, GUIDE or RECIPE work; YES, WOW or LOVE would go off on ordinary comments.
  • Matching is by whole word in any case, so LINK catches “Link please!” but not “links”. Add the plural as a second word.
  • One word per post is easiest to follow. If you run LINK on every post, an auto-reply set up for one particular post takes priority there, so that post can send a different link.
  • Leave the word out only where every comment should get the DM, such as a “comment anything” post. Anywhere else, people who just wrote “nice” get a DM they didn't ask for.
  • Comments with a web link in them are skipped as spam, and each person gets the DM once a day per auto-reply, however many times they comment.

Tip: Test from a second account before you post: comment the word, check the public reply, answer the DM and tap the link.

“I commented but didn't get anything”

When that turns up under your post, it's usually one of these:

  • They typed a different word, or a form of it the auto-reply doesn't list.
  • The DM went to their message requests because they don't follow you.
  • They already got it today from the same auto-reply.
  • The post took off and replies are queued behind Instagram's hourly limit. They'll still arrive.
  • The auto-reply was set up after they commented. DMFast can go back over comments from the last 7 days on paid plans.
  • The account is on a free plan and has reached its monthly limit of people.

Answer those comments by hand with the word to use, or send the link yourself from the app if the comment is too old for a private reply.

What to measure

Follow the drop at each step. Of the people who comment, how many answer the first DM? Of those, how many tap the link? A big fall at the first step usually means the question was unclear or the DM sat in requests. A fall at the second means the page behind the link doesn't match what the post promised.

Compare posts too. Each auto-reply's link is tracked on its own, so you can see which post sent the most people to the link, not just which one collected the most comments.

Questions people ask

Why can't the first DM just contain the link?

Because the reply to a comment is a single private message with no links or buttons, and nothing else can be sent until the person answers. A short question gets that answer, and the link card follows straight after.

Does comment for link work on Reels?

Yes. Private replies work on comments under posts and Reels, and under ads and live broadcasts too, though Live comments only while the broadcast is on. In DMFast you can run an auto-reply on one post or Reel, or on all of them.

Do people have to type YES exactly?

No. YES is only a prompt. In DMFast any reply to the first DM moves things on, whether it's “yes”, “pls” or “send it”, so nobody is stuck for using the wrong word.

Can I make people follow me before they get the link?

On Instagram, yes. DMFast's “Only send to followers” option checks whether they follow you once they reply, and asks them to follow first if not. It's a paid option and doesn't exist on Facebook, which doesn't tell apps who follows a Page.

Will it work on posts I published months ago?

Yes, for new comments, because the 7 days run from each comment rather than from the post. Comments already under the post can only get a private reply while they're less than 7 days old.

Can I ask for an email before sending the link?

Yes. DMFast can ask for an email after their first reply and send the link once they give one. Throwaway addresses are turned away, and the list exports as a CSV. Keep the ask honest and say what they'll get by email, if anything.
