Send the full episode to everyone who comments on a clip
To promote a podcast or a long video on Instagram, post a short clip, ask viewers to comment one word, and DM each of them the full episode once they reply. The first message after a comment must be plain text, so it asks whether they want the link, and the episode follows their answer. These 13 templates cover clip viewers, release day, listener questions and guests.

Caption line for a clip
Two minutes from a much longer conversation with {guest}. Comment LISTEN and I'll DM you the full episode.
Put the word in the first line, and say it out loud at the end of the clip as well. Plenty of people watch Reels without ever opening the caption.
First DM under a clip
Hey, thanks for commenting! This message is automatic. That clip comes from episode {number}, which runs about an hour. Shall I send you the whole thing? Reply YES.
Give the length now. Someone deciding between “later” and “never” decides faster knowing it's an hour and not three.
Asking where they listen
Happy to send it! Where do you usually listen: Spotify, Apple Podcasts or YouTube? Tell me and I'll send the link for that app.
One link in the app they already use beats three to choose from. An auto-reply sends everyone the same thing, so ask this by hand, or skip it and send a page with every app.
Every app in one link
Here's the episode page, with a button for each podcast app: {link} Pick the one you already use.
Many podcast hosts give each episode a web page with links to the main apps, which saves sending three links one after another.
The link with a timestamp
Here's the full episode: {link} The part from the clip starts at {time}, though the ten minutes before it are what make it land.
A YouTube link can be set to start at a chosen moment. For podcast apps, giving the minute lets people skip straight there.
Full video on YouTube
Here's the full video: {link} It's {length} long, and the chapters in the description take you to any section, including the one from the Reel.
Mention chapters only if you've added them. On YouTube they come from timestamps you list in the description, starting at 0:00.
A series, from the start
That clip is from part three of a series, so you might like to start at the beginning. Here's the playlist with every part in order: {link}
Someone arriving at part three has missed the set-up. A playlist link lets them start at part one without searching for it.
Release-day Story reply
Thanks for replying! This message is automatic. The new episode is out today, and I think it's one of our best. Here's the link: {link} Tell me what you think once you've heard it.
Post a Story on release day asking people to reply LISTEN. Each reply arrives as a DM, so the link can go out in the very first answer.
“Tell me when the next one's out”
I'd love to, but Instagram only lets me send automatic messages for a day after you write, so I can't ping you next week. Following the show in your podcast app is the reliable way: new episodes turn up there by themselves. Here's the link: {link}
Don't promise a release-day DM unless you'll type each one yourself. An automated message can't reach anyone whose last message is more than 24 hours old.
Listener question for a Q&A episode
Thanks for this, it's a great question. I'm saving questions for a listener episode on {date}. Is it OK if I read yours out with your first name, or would you rather stay anonymous?
Get a clear yes before anyone's message is read on air. Their reply stays in the chat, so you can check it before you record.
Telling a guest the episode is out, by hand
Hi {name}, your episode is out today. Thank you again, it was one of my favourite conversations. Here's the link: {link} I've cut a few short clips too. Want me to send them for your own posts?
Send it yourself from the Instagram app. Ready-made clips make it easy for a guest to share the episode with an audience you don't reach.
Asking for a rating
So glad you enjoyed it, thank you for telling me. If you have a spare moment, a rating in your podcast app would help other people decide whether to press play.
Ask only after they've said they liked it. Asking in the first DM, before they've heard a minute, gets nowhere.
Public reply to “which episode is this?”
It's from episode {number}, “{title}”. Comment LISTEN and the link will come to your DMs.
The question comes up a lot under clips. Put the episode number on screen and in the first line of the caption, and fewer people will need to ask.

The full episode is waiting in your DMs 🎧First DM (plain text)
Hi! You commented LISTEN, so this DM is automatic. The clip is a small piece of a longer conversation, and the whole episode is ready for you on whichever app you use. Would you like the link? Reply YES.Yes pleaseThe full episode, on any appListen nowInstagram allows one plain-text message per comment until the person answers, so this one only asks. Their YES opens 24 hours for the card, which links to an episode page with every app. DMFast matches whole words, so “I'll listen tonight” counts too, and that commenter wants the link anyway.

Rules to know
- Each comment on a post or Reel can get one private reply within 7 days. It's plain text with no link, so the episode link can only follow once the person answers.
- Reels reach many people who don't follow you, and their private reply lands in the Requests folder rather than the main inbox.
- Comments made during an Instagram Live can only get a private reply while the broadcast is running, so a word you announce in a live recording has to be answered before you end.
- If a clip takes off, Instagram's ceiling is 750 private replies to comments per hour per account. DMFast keeps below 700 and queues the overflow, and each queued reply still goes out within its comment's 7 days.
- Automated messages, a release-day reminder included, need the person to have written to you in the last 24 hours. A comment on last month's clip doesn't open a new chance once its private reply has gone.
Sources
From clip to full episode, step by step
- Cut a clip that makes sense on its own but stops before the full answer. The rest of the conversation is the reason to ask for the link.
- Put the episode number on screen and the comment word in the first line of the caption.
- Someone comments LISTEN. A short public reply appears under their comment, and a plain-text DM asks whether they want the episode.
- They answer, and the card with the episode link arrives inside the 24 hours their answer opened.
- The link stays in their inbox, so the episode is still one tap away on the way home.
Why not just say “link in bio”? A bio holds up to five links, usually with your newest episode among them, so anyone who finds an older clip has to hunt for the right one. A DM sends the exact episode the clip came from.
Which link to send
| Your audience mostly uses | Send | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| One app, such as Spotify | That app's episode link | Your host's stats usually show which apps people listen in |
| A mix of apps | An episode page with every app | Many podcast hosts create one for each episode |
| YouTube, for a video podcast | The video, starting at the clip's moment | Chapters help people find the other parts |
| Nothing yet, they're brand new | The episode page on your own website | Room for show notes, links and a newsletter sign-up |
Tip: Open the link from an Instagram DM on your own phone before the clip goes up. Links in DMs often open inside Instagram first, and the page should work there too.
Release day without a mass DM
There's no official way to message everyone who commented on last month's clips when a new episode lands. What works is giving people a reason to write to you first, or using a channel built for updates.
- A Story on release day asking people to reply LISTEN. Each reply starts a conversation, and an auto-reply sends the link straight back. Avoid a word like NEW, which turns up in ordinary replies.
- A clip from the new episode, with an auto-reply on that post that sends the new link.
- Your broadcast channel, if you run one. Followers who joined see the post without anyone being messaged one by one.
- The podcast apps themselves. People who follow the show there get each new episode without a message from you.
How to tell which clips work
Judge each clip on its own: how many comments carried the word, how many people answered the first DM, and how many tapped the episode link, which a tracked link counts. Your podcast host's numbers for the days after a clip goes up fill in the rest, though they can't tell you which listener came from which clip.
After a few weeks, the clips with the most taps show you what to cut next. It may not be the funniest moment; a clip that leaves a question open gives people a reason to tap.
Questions people ask
Can I DM all my followers when a new episode comes out?
No. Official tools can only message people who wrote to you or commented, and automated messages must go out within 24 hours of the person's last message. A release-day Story that invites replies, a broadcast channel if you have one, and followers in the podcast apps cover the same ground.
Should the DM link to Spotify, Apple Podcasts or YouTube?
Link to the app most of your listeners already use, which your host's stats will show. If it's a real mix, send one episode page with every app on it rather than three links. For a video podcast, a YouTube link that starts at the clip's moment suits people who found you through a Reel.
Does this work for YouTube videos as well as podcasts?
Yes, the steps are the same: a short clip on Instagram, a comment word, a plain-text DM and the full video once they reply. WATCH works as the word, and the link can open at the moment the clip came from.
Can each clip send a different episode?
Yes. Give each clip's post its own auto-reply with that episode's link. In DMFast an auto-reply tied to one post takes priority over one that runs on every post, so old clips keep sending the right episode after newer ones come out.
Why do some people say they never got the link?
Check two things first. If they don't follow you, the DM went to their message requests, which is common when a Reel travels beyond your followers. And if they wrote “listening” or “link pls”, DMFast's whole-word matching won't catch it, so reply with the exact word to use.
