Comment fonts for Instagram

Instagram's comment box has no bold button or font choice, so a styled comment is pasted in: type below, copy a style such as ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ, ๐’ธ๐“Š๐“‡๐“ˆ๐’พ๐“‹โ„ฏ or ๊œฑแดแด€สŸสŸ แด„แด€แด˜๊œฑ, and paste it as your comment or reply. These are Unicode look-alike characters, not fonts. One exception to styling: if a post asks you to comment a word to get something, type that word plainly.

Where they work

Instagram comment fonts: where they work
WhereWorks?Notes
Comments on posts and ReelsWorksBold, cursive, small caps and the sparkle frame all display in comment threads, in the app and on the website.
RepliesWorksTapping Reply starts your text with the person's @username. Leave that as Instagram typed it, so they're mentioned, and paste your styled words after it.
Comment keywords like GUIDEDoesn't workAutomations that send a DM when you comment a word look for that word. ๐—š๐—จ๐—œ๐——๐—˜ in bold Unicode is a different string of characters, so it may not count. Type keywords plainly.
Tagging a friend with @Doesn't workA tag only works with the handle in plain characters. A styled @name doesn't link to your friend's profile or let them know you tagged them.
Hashtags in commentsDoesn't workA tag written in styled letters doesn't link to the plain tag's page. If you add tags in a comment, type them normally.
Facebook comments and MessengerWorksThe same characters paste into Facebook and display the same way there, since they're text rather than formatting.

Posting a styled comment or reply

  1. Type your comment in the box at the top of this page, or just the word you want to stand out.
  2. Copy the style you like.
  3. In Instagram, open the post, tap the comment field, or Reply under someone's comment, and paste. Add plain words or emoji around it if you like.
  4. Post it and look at it in the thread. If a letter shows as a box, delete the comment and post it again in a more common style, such as bold.

Most comments work best with one styled word or a short line. A paragraph of cursive in a thread full of plain replies is slow to read, and people tend to scroll past it.

Comment keywords need plain letters

Creators and shops often ask you to comment a word, such as GUIDE, LINK or PRICE, and an automation answers with a DM. These automations look for the word as text. DMFast, for example, ignores capitals, so GUIDE, guide and Guide all count, but ๐—š๐—จ๐—œ๐——๐—˜, ๐’ข๐’ฐโ„๐’Ÿโ„ฐ and ษขแดœษชแด…แด‡ are made of different characters and don't. Other tools may treat them differently, so don't rely on a styled keyword working anywhere.

If you commented the plain word and nothing arrived, check a few things before commenting again. The account may only send to followers. A DM from an account you don't follow can land in your message requests rather than your main inbox. And the first message often asks you to reply before the link arrives.

Which styles suit a comment

StyleExampleGood for
Bold๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ colour thoughPointing at the one thing you mean
Cursive๐“ˆ๐“‰๐“Š๐“ƒ๐“ƒ๐’พ๐“ƒโ„ŠA one-word compliment

Sparklesโœง๏ฝฅ๏พŸ: *โœง๏ฝฅ๏พŸ:* congrats on the launch *:๏ฝฅ๏พŸโœง*:๏ฝฅ๏พŸโœงBirthdays, launches and milestones

The sparkle frame adds 23 characters around your words, so on a narrow phone even a short message can spill onto two or three lines. Save it for comments where celebrating is the point.

Cursive has a quirk that shows up in short comments. A handful of its letters, such as the g in ๐“ˆ๐“‰๐“Š๐“ƒ๐“ƒ๐’พ๐“ƒโ„Š and every small e and o, come from an older part of Unicode and can look slightly unlike their neighbours. Bold cursive, ๐“ผ๐“ฝ๐“พ๐“ท๐“ท๐“ฒ๐“ท๐“ฐ, takes every letter from one set.

How your comment looks to everyone else

A comment is read on other people's screens, not yours. Each phone draws these characters with its own fonts, so bold can look heavier on one and cursive thinner on another. Your username beside the comment always stays plain, so people can still tap through to your profile.

Screen readers make the bigger difference. Someone listening to a thread hears plain comments read normally, while a styled one can come out as a string of character names, or as nothing. If your comment carries information, such as an answer to someone's question, write that part plainly.

For creators replying to comments

  • A styled opener in a reply, such as ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ธ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚, feels personal. Keep the useful part, like a size, a date or a price, in plain text.
  • Instagram doesn't turn web addresses in comments into links, so pasting a link in a reply helps few people. Point them to your bio, or send it by DM.
  • A pinned comment sits at the top of the thread, so a bold first line there works as a mini FAQ for questions everyone asks.
  • If your caption asks people to comment a word, show it in plain capitals in the caption and in your pinned comment, so the version people copy is the one your automation listens for.

Questions people ask

How do I comment in bold on Instagram?

Type your words in the box on this page, copy the Bold version and paste it into the comment field. Instagram has no bold button, so pasting is the only way. The same works for cursive, small caps and every other style here.

How do I decorate a comment without changing the letters?

Use a frame. The Sparkles, Stars, Flowers and Cute frame styles wrap your words in symbols and leave the letters themselves alone, so your words stay ordinary text. An emoji or two at the end does a similar job with less clutter.

Can people tell I used a font generator?

Only from the look. The comment is ordinary text made of unusual characters, and nothing marks where it came from. Anyone who copies it gets the same styled characters you pasted.

Will my styled comment show on every phone?

Bold, cursive and small caps display on current phones and computers. The sparkle frame borrows two half-width Japanese characters, which current phones also show. Very old devices may show empty boxes in place of some characters.
