Fonts for your Facebook bio
Your Facebook bio, the short line at the top of your profile’s Intro, accepts styled letters even though your profile name doesn’t. Type below, copy a style and paste it into the bio. The styles are Unicode look-alike characters rather than fonts. Because the bio holds only 101 characters and is always public, a styled word or two tends to work better than a styled sentence.

Where they work
| Where | Works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Profile bio | Works | Every style here pastes into the bio, and styled and plain words can share one line. Facebook keeps the bio public, so everyone who opens your profile sees the same thing. |
| Profile name | Doesn't work | Profile names have to meet Facebook’s name standards, which rule out symbols and characters from mixed alphabets. Styled letters break both rules, so they’re refused. |
| Profile link (username) | Doesn't work | The address after facebook.com/ is limited to letters, numbers and full stops, so it stays plain whatever your bio looks like. |
| Page intro | Works | A Facebook Page has its own short intro, which takes styled letters just as a profile bio does. The Page’s name is held to Facebook’s Page name guidelines and stays plain. |
| Posts, comments and Messenger | Works | The same styles paste anywhere you write on Facebook, so a style you settle on for the bio can carry through to your posts and chats. |
| Email or phone in the bio | Doesn't work | A styled email address or phone number can’t be pasted into an email app or dialler and work. Keep contact details plain, or add them to the contact fields in your About section. |
Why the bio does the styling on Facebook
On Instagram, people often decorate the name at the top of their profile. Facebook doesn’t allow that: your profile name has to be the one you use in everyday life, written plainly. That leaves the bio as the one line near the top of your profile where both the words and their look are up to you.
Two facts shape what goes in it. It holds 101 characters, and spaces, punctuation and emoji all count. And it’s always public, so friends, friends of friends and strangers who land on your profile all read the same line. Treat it like the sign on your front door rather than a note to your friends.
One bio line in four styles
Here is “Nurse by day, baker by night” in the four styles shown first above. All four paste in; the difference is how easily people can read them.
| Style | Example | How it reads in a bio |
|---|---|---|
| Small caps | ɴᴜʀꜱᴇ ʙʏ ᴅᴀʏ, ʙᴀᴋᴇʀ ʙʏ ɴɪɢʜᴛ | Level and calm, the easiest of the four to read as a full line |
| Cursive | 𝒩𝓊𝓇𝓈ℯ 𝒷𝓎 𝒹𝒶𝓎, 𝒷𝒶𝓀ℯ𝓇 𝒷𝓎 𝓃𝒾ℊ𝒽𝓉 | Pretty but thin; the e and g come from an older symbol set and can look out of step |
| Bold | 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗯𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 | Strong on one or two words, heavy across a whole line |
| Sparkles | ✧・゚: *✧・゚:* Nurse by day, baker by night *:・゚✧*:・゚✧ | Your words stay plain, but the frame takes a big share of the 101 characters |
Small caps can carry a whole bio. Bold and cursive work better on part of it, such as the job or the hobby, with the rest plain: 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲 by day, baker by night. If the sparkle frame leaves you short of room, keep only the outer stars: ✧ Nurse by day, baker by night ✧.
Let the Intro details carry the facts
Below the bio, Facebook’s Intro can list where you work, where you studied, where you live and where you’re from, each on its own line with an icon. These come from separate fields, and each has its own audience setting, so you can show your workplace to friends only while the bio stays public.
That division suits styled text. Leave the facts to the Intro fields, in Facebook’s plain type, and use the bio for what those fields can’t say: what you love, what you make, what people know you for. A styled bio above plain details looks deliberate rather than cluttered.
Tip: Running a side business? Give its name in plain letters somewhere in the bio, even if the rest is styled. People who meet you on Facebook often look the business up later, and they’ll type ordinary letters when they do.
A styled bio for screen readers and search
Screen readers handle styled characters unevenly. Some read each one by its long Unicode name, some spell out the letters and some skip them, so a bio written entirely in styled text can come out as noise or as silence. Software that copies or translates text has a similar problem: a styled word is a run of symbols, not the word it resembles.
- Style a word or a phrase, not the whole bio.
- Keep names people might look up, such as a band, a shop or a team, in plain letters.
- For decoration a screen reader can describe, use an emoji such as 🩺 or 🧁 instead of styling a word.
Editing your bio on a phone or computer
- Type your bio in the box at the top of this page and copy the style you like.
- In the Facebook app, open your profile, tap Edit profile, then Edit or Add next to Bio. On a computer, click Edit bio in the Intro box on your profile.
- Paste the text, check that the whole line fits and save. If Facebook stops you before the end, cut decoration before you cut words.
- Look at the result in the app and in a browser, since styled letters can look slightly different on each.
Questions people ask
How long can a Facebook bio be?
101 characters, with spaces, punctuation and emoji all counted. Decoration uses that space quickly, and a full sparkle frame takes a large share of it, so draft the bio here first and trim the decoration before you trim the words.
Can I make my Facebook bio private?
No. Facebook shows the bio to everyone who opens your profile, whatever your other privacy settings are. Put anything you’d rather keep to friends, such as your workplace or school, in the Intro details, where you choose the audience for each one.
Why can I use fancy letters in my bio but not in my name?
Facebook’s name standards cover names only. They ask for the name you go by in everyday life and exclude symbols and mixed alphabets, which styled letters break. The bio is free text, so the same characters go through there.
Will a styled bio stop people finding me?
Not on its own. People usually look for a profile by name, and your name stays plain whatever your bio says. What a styled bio can hide is a word inside it, such as the name of your business, that someone might search for later, so keep words like that plain.
Can I reuse my Instagram bio on Facebook?
Yes, styled characters paste the same way in both apps. Instagram allows a longer bio than Facebook’s 101 characters, though, so a full Instagram bio usually needs cutting. Drop extra decoration first, then anything your Intro details already say.
