Fonts for Instagram highlight names
Highlight names, the labels under the circles on your Instagram profile, accept styled letters just as your bio does. Type a name below, copy a style and paste it in when you create or edit a highlight. The styles are Unicode look-alikes rather than fonts. Tiny letters and small caps are the usual picks, because the label is short and set in small type.

Where they work
| Where | Works? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Highlight name | Works | Paste a styled name in when you create a highlight or edit one. The field takes up to 15 characters, but only about the first nine show under the circle. |
| Highlight cover | Doesn't work | The cover is a picture, either a frame from one of the highlight’s Stories or an image from your phone, so there’s nowhere to paste text. Put lettering on a cover image in a design app instead. |
| Stories inside a highlight | Works | Text pasted into a Story keeps its style when the Story is saved to a highlight, so the first Story can open with the same style as the name. |
| Profile name | Works | Your name field takes the same styles, so the name at the top of your profile and the labels below it can match. |
| Username | Doesn't work | Handles allow a–z, 0–9, full stops and underscores only, so the styling stops at your name and highlights. |
| Emoji in highlight names | Works | Emoji paste in like any other character and can sit beside a styled word or replace it. Screen readers announce emoji by name, which helps listeners. |
Why highlight names suit small letters
A highlight name has two jobs: say what’s inside, and fit into a label about as wide as the circle above it. Instagram sets these labels in small type on a single line and cuts long ones short. Compact styles keep a row of labels neat, which is why tiny text and small caps turn up here so often.
| Style | Reviews | Under a circle |
|---|---|---|
| Tiny | ᴿᵉᵛⁱᵉʷˢ | Raised and very small: delicate, but the hardest to read on a small phone |
| Small caps | ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡꜱ | Level and even, so it reads as a label and stays legible |
| Bold | 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 | The heaviest of the three, useful when the covers are busy photos |
| Plain | Reviews | Instagram’s own type, readable by everyone, screen readers included |
Small caps are the safe middle choice. Tiny text is the most decorative and works best on short words people recognise at a glance, such as ᴹᵉⁿᵘ or ᵀʳᵃᵛᵉˡ.
Common highlight names in three styles
Most profiles use the same handful of highlight names. Here is how some of them come out, including two that tiny text handles badly.
| Name | Tiny | Small caps | Bold |
|---|---|---|---|
| Menu | ᴹᵉⁿᵘ | ᴍᴇɴᴜ | 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘂 |
| Reviews | ᴿᵉᵛⁱᵉʷˢ | ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡꜱ | 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 |
| Travel | ᵀʳᵃᵛᵉˡ | ᴛʀᴀᴠᴇʟ | 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹 |
| FAQ | ᶠᴬᑫ | ꜰᴀǫ | 𝗙𝗔𝗤 |
| Q&A | ᑫ&ᴬ | ǫ&ᴀ | 𝗤&𝗔 |
| Top 10 | ᵀᵒᵖ ¹⁰ | ᴛᴏᴘ 10 | 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝟭𝟬 |
FAQ and Q&A show where tiny text runs short. The generator has no long-established raised capital for C, F, Q, S, X, Y or Z, so those come out as small raised letters, and q is borrowed from Canadian Aboriginal syllabics as ᑫ. That leaves ᶠᴬᑫ with one capital out of three, while the & in Q&A stays full size. Small caps and bold handle both names with fewer surprises.
Tip: If you like the tiny look, type highlight names in lowercase before converting. The generator has a proper raised letter for every lowercase letter except q, so a row like ᵐᵉⁿᵘ, ʳᵉᵛⁱᵉʷˢ and ᵗʳᵃᵛᵉˡ comes out even.
Making a row of highlights look like a set
Visitors see your highlights as one row, so the names read best as a set: one style, one case and roughly the same length.
- Pick one style for every name. A row that mixes tiny, bold and plain labels looks unfinished.
- Keep to one word where you can, like ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡꜱ, ᴍᴇɴᴜ and ʜᴏᴜʀꜱ. Short names are less likely to be cut off.
- Match covers to names. Plain-colour covers with simple icons leave room for styled labels, while busy photo covers pair better with plain or bold names.
- Mind the order. Adding a Story to a highlight moves it to the front of the row, so add to your most important highlights last.
Renaming a highlight
- Type the new name in the box above and copy the style you want.
- On your profile, press and hold the highlight, then tap Edit highlight.
- Clear the old name, paste the new one and tap Done.
- Check the row on your profile. If the name trails off, shorten it or cut it to a single word.
The same screen lets you change the cover and add or remove Stories, so a rename is a good moment to tidy the whole highlight.
Highlight names and screen readers
People using a screen reader usually hear a highlight’s name before they open it. A name in tiny letters or small caps may be read as a string of odd characters, spelled out letter by letter or skipped, which leaves the highlight a mystery. For highlights that hold practical information, such as prices, a menu or opening hours, a plain name is the kinder choice. Keep styled names for the ones that are just for fun.
An emoji beside a plain name, such as 🍰 Cakes, adds decoration that a screen reader can describe by name.
Questions people ask
How long can an Instagram highlight name be?
Up to 15 characters, but the label under the circle usually shows only about the first nine before it trails off. Aim for one short word, and if you need two, put the important one first.
Why does my tiny highlight name look uneven?
Tiny text mixes raised capitals with small raised letters wherever no raised capital is available, and it borrows a character from another script for q. Converting the name from lowercase gives the most even result.
Can I put emoji in highlight names?
Yes. Emoji paste in like any other character. One can replace a word or sit beside it, but it takes up room in a short label, so an emoji plus one short word is about as much as fits.
How do I put text on a highlight cover?
Make the cover as an image with the lettering on it, in a design app or as a plain Story you save to your phone instead of posting. Then edit the highlight, choose Edit cover and pick that image from your photos.
Do highlights disappear after 24 hours?
No. Stories leave the Story tray after 24 hours, but the ones you add to a highlight stay on your profile until you remove them or delete the highlight.
