Travel captions for trains, wrong turns and street food

These travel captions are ready to paste under a photo from a train window, a market stall or a street you got lost on. They're grouped by the part of the trip you're posting: packing, the journey, finding your way, eating, travelling solo or with your people, and the jet lag and souvenirs that follow you home.

Tips before you post

  1. If location is switched on for your camera, your phone saves where each photo was taken, and your gallery app can show it on a map. Check it before you caption a carousel, so the waterfall isn't credited to the wrong town.

  2. Back up the trip's photos every night, to cloud storage or a second device. A lost or stolen phone on day nine takes days one to eight with it.

  3. Ask before photographing people up close, especially at markets and places of worship, and look for signs: some museums, temples and churches ban photos, or allow them only without flash.

  4. Famous spots are calmer early. In the first hour after sunrise, the light is softer and far fewer people walk through your shot.

  5. Photograph the in-between moments too: the ticket, the platform clock, the snack from the border kiosk. They turn a set of views into the story of a journey.

Turn comments into DMs

Ask people to comment ITINERARY

End your caption with a line like this:

“Comment ITINERARY and I'll send it to you in a DM.”

What they get

The day-by-day plan for this trip: where we stayed, how we got between places, what each day cost and the one booking worth making weeks ahead.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What's a good caption for a travel photo?

Name the place, then add one detail you'd only know by being there: the bus that never came, the price of a coffee, the dog that followed you up the hill. That's what makes a travel caption sound like you rather than a tourist brochure.

Is it safe to post while I'm still travelling?

Think about who can see it. On a public account, a live post tells strangers that you're away from home and exactly where you are now. One option is to share the trip in Stories with your Close Friends list while you're away, and save the main posts for when you've moved on or come home.

Should I tag the exact location?

For a city, a landmark or a restaurant, yes: it helps anyone planning the same trip. For a quiet trail, a small beach or a fragile spot, some travellers tag only the region, because a popular tag can bring more visitors than the place can handle.

Can I write my caption in the local language?

Yes, if you're sure of it. Run the line past someone who speaks the language, or stick to words you actually used, like thank you or good morning. Translation apps miss slang and tone, and a mistranslated caption can say something you didn't mean.

What's the difference between travel and holiday captions?

Travel captions are about moving: journeys, new places, wrong turns and food you can't name. Holiday captions are about stopping: sun loungers, pools and long naps. If your photo is of a sunbed, the vacation captions page will suit it better.
