Family captions for the photo where everyone's eyes are open
Here are family captions for the photos that take a timer and ten attempts: Sunday lunch, the big get-together, a day out with three generations. They're grouped by occasion and by who's in the frame, from parents and siblings to cousins, aunties, in-laws, step-families and the friends who've become family.

Tips before you post
Prop the phone on something steady at chest height, leave space around the edges of the frame and use the timer or a Bluetooth remote. Take several rounds: the more shots you take, the better the odds that every pair of eyes is open in one of them.
Take the group photo soon after everyone arrives. An hour later, the kids are sticky, someone has left to move the car and the good window light has gone.
Seat the oldest relatives in the middle and build the group around them. They won't have to stand for long, and everyone else can arrange themselves by height behind and beside them.
Tag relatives who have Instagram directly on the photo. For those who don't, send the post to the family chat or share it to Facebook, where older relatives are often more likely to see it.
Posting an old family photo? Ask someone who was there for the story first. A year, a place and one remembered detail make a better caption than a guess.
Questions people ask
What's a good caption for a family photo?
Say what brought everyone together, then add one detail only your family would recognise: the uncle who always brings the same pudding, the argument about the oven, the dog under the baby's chair. Tag people on the photo so the caption itself can stay short.
Should I post photos of my nieces, nephews or cousins' kids?
Ask their parents first, every time. Families differ a lot here: some share everything, while others keep children off public accounts entirely. If you're unsure, post a shot of the adults, the table or the kids from behind.
How do I make a family caption funny without embarrassing anyone?
Point the joke at the situation rather than a person: the oven that was too small, the timer that went off early, the dog that wandered into the shot. If you do tease a relative, pick the one who'll laugh loudest, and check with them before you post.
What can I post if my family situation is complicated?
Post the family that's actually in your life: the aunt who raised you, the step-parent, the friends you spend holidays with. Nobody is owed a picture of a traditional set-up. If you'd rather not answer questions, you can switch off comments on that one post.
Do these captions work for a family reunion?
Yes. The cousins and reunions group was written for big get-togethers, and the short lines suit any group shot. For a wedding or a new baby, the wedding and new baby caption pages have lines made for those days.
