Coffee captions for the cup you photographed before the first sip

Copy any of these coffee captions for a photo of your cup, your café table or the kettle at dawn. They're sorted by the coffee itself: the first cup of the day, café orders, iced coffee and cold brew, brewing at home, coffee dates, cups from around the world and, at the end, a small set of puns.

Tips before you post

  1. Shoot latte art from straight above within the first minute. The pattern spreads and fades as the foam settles, and it's gone after a few sips.

  2. To catch steam, put something dark behind the cup and let window light come from the side or from behind. Against a white wall, steam barely shows.

  3. Photograph iced coffee right after the milk goes in, while it's still swirling through the ice. A minute later it has settled into one flat beige.

  4. Get a hand, a book or a pastry into the frame. A cup alone on a table can look like a stock photo; a hand around the mug shows someone is actually drinking it.

  5. In a busy café, frame the cup tightly or shoot towards the window, so other customers' faces and laptop screens stay out of the picture.

What they get

This month's beans with tasting notes, the grind size for each way of brewing, and the date the next batch comes out of the roaster.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What's a good caption for a coffee photo?

Name what's in the cup and one thing about the moment: the café, the time, who you're with or why you needed it. “Oat flat white, window seat, 20 minutes before my first meeting” tells a small story that a general line about loving coffee doesn't.

What's the difference between a latte, a flat white and a cappuccino?

All three are espresso with steamed milk. A cappuccino has a thick layer of foam on top, a latte is milkier with a thin layer of foam, and a flat white is usually smaller, often with a double shot and a thin, silky layer of milk, so the coffee tastes stronger. Cafés vary, so the same name can mean slightly different drinks.

What's the difference between cold brew and iced coffee?

Iced coffee is usually brewed hot, then poured over ice. Cold brew is made by steeping ground coffee in cold or room-temperature water for many hours, often 12 to 24, then straining it. Many people find cold brew smoother and less bitter.

Should I tag the café in my coffee post?

If you liked it, yes. Tagging the café's account and adding the location helps other people find it, and small cafés sometimes reshare customers' photos. If you're photographing the counter or a barista at work, ask first.

What is South Indian filter coffee?

It's coffee brewed slowly through a two-part metal filter, then mixed with hot milk and sugar and served in a steel tumbler that sits in a wide bowl called a davara. Pouring it back and forth between the two cools it and builds a froth. The coffee is often blended with chicory.
