Instagram captions
Gym captions for the rack, the mirror and the day after
Paste any of these gym captions under a lifting clip, a mirror selfie or a red-faced photo after the last set. They're grouped by what you're posting: leg, push and pull days, a new personal best (PB), progress photos, early and late sessions, gym-floor comedy, first weeks and comebacks, and training with a buddy, a coach or a class. Most are short enough to read before a video loops.

Tips before you post
Film lifts from the side at about hip height. That angle shows squat depth and the path of the bar, which is the first thing lifters in the comments will look at.
Turn the flash off for mirror selfies. It bounces straight back off the glass and leaves a bright blotch where your phone is.
For progress photos, keep the spot, the time of day, the lighting and the clothes the same each time. Light from directly above makes muscles look more defined than light from the front, so a change of lighting can fake progress or hide it.
Before a heavy lift, film the plates as you load them or put the weight in the caption. Plate colours vary between gyms and are hard to read on a small screen, and people will ask.
Turn a session into a carousel: the lift video first, a photo second and the full workout written out on the last slide. People who want the sets and reps can swipe for them, and everyone else gets the highlight.
Questions people ask
What should I write in a gym caption?
Something about the session behind the photo: what you trained, a number you hit, the alarm you beat or the person who dragged you there. One specific detail reads better than a slogan. If people ask for your workout, put the sets and reps in a comment or on the last slide of a carousel, so the caption itself stays short.
What does PB mean in a gym caption?
PB means personal best: the heaviest weight, the most reps or the fastest time you've ever done. In the US people more often say PR, for personal record. Either is fine. Name the lift and say whether it's kg or lb, or half the comments will be people asking.
Is it OK to film my workout at the gym?
Usually, but check your gym's rules first, because many have a filming policy. Film your own sets, keep other members out of the frame or ask them first, and never film in a changing room. Put the phone where nobody will trip over it, and move it between sets if you're sharing equipment.
Should I share my weight or measurements in a progress post?
Only if you're happy for them to stay public. A progress photo says plenty without numbers, and strength milestones, like a first pull-up or a heavier squat, often get more replies than scale weights. If you change your mind later, you can archive the post to hide it from your profile without deleting it.
How do I deal with rude comments about my form or my body?
You can turn off comments on a single post, and Hidden Words in Instagram's settings filters out comments containing words or phrases you choose. Restrict is quieter: a restricted person's new comments are visible only to them unless you approve them. Form tips from coaches and lifters you trust are worth reading; strangers' guesses about your body aren't.
