Tips before you post
Shoot the dashboard view with the passenger holding the phone, not the driver. A shot through the windscreen with a clean glass and a low sun looks best, so wipe the inside first.
Take a photo at every petrol station or roadside stop. A string of small stops makes a better carousel than twenty pictures of the same road.
Pull over for the wide shots. A photo taken at speed is usually blurred, and it is not safe for the driver to take one.
Tag the town or the stall where you ate, not just the country. Small places get a lot of attention when someone local sees the post.
Screenshot your route on the map at the end of the trip. It makes a tidy last slide and the squiggle tells a story on its own.
Save the funny moments from the back seat as short clips. A forty-second video of the car singing often gets more replies than a landscape.
Questions people ask
What should I caption a road trip photo?
Match the caption to the picture. A dashboard photo suits something about the driver or the playlist, a snack shot suits a joke about petrol station food, and a wide road shot is better with a short line or none at all.
Can I post a photo while driving?
No. Take photos from the passenger seat or pull over somewhere safe. Post the caption later when you stop, because writing and tapping while driving is dangerous and illegal in many places.
How long should a road trip caption be?
Short works for a pretty road or a sunset. Use a longer caption of two or three sentences for a carousel that covers several days, because people swipe through it more slowly.
Should I post road trip photos live or after the trip?
Both work. Stories are good for live updates, like a petrol station stop or a wrong turn. Save the best photos for a carousel after you get home, when you can pick the strongest ten.
