Thanksgiving captions for the table, the couch and the leftovers
Here are 90 Thanksgiving captions for every photo between switching the oven on and the leftover sandwich the next day. The groups follow what's in the frame: the bird, the sides and pies, the family, Friendsgiving, the food coma, and the years you spend it at work or far from home. Nearly all of them work for Canada's Thanksgiving in October too.

Tips before you post
Photograph the table before anyone sits down. Shoot from standing height at one end, or hold the phone straight above the middle, because five minutes later the shot has elbows, phones and a gravy spill in it.
Daylight from a window beats the dining-room bulb. Take the food shots as dishes come out of the oven in the afternoon; once it's dark, warm indoor light can turn everything orange.
Do the group photo before the meal, not after. Prop the phone on a shelf, set the self-timer and make sure the host, usually the one holding the camera, is in it for once.
If a family recipe lives on a handwritten card, photograph the card next to the finished dish. The stains and the handwriting make a better post than the dish alone.
Check the background before posting: a letter with your address on it, the Wi-Fi password stuck to the fridge, or a cousin's child whose parents keep them off social media.
Questions people ask
When is Thanksgiving in 2026?
In the United States it falls on the fourth Thursday of November, which in 2026 is November 26. Canada celebrates on the second Monday of October, which in 2026 is October 12. Most captions on this page work for either; the few about Black Friday and American football are written for the US holiday.
What's a good short Thanksgiving caption?
Name one thing in the photo and stop there: the extra table leaf, the can-shaped cranberry sauce, the third pie. A short line lets the spread do the talking, and the first group above has a dozen to start from.
What should I caption a Friendsgiving post?
Lean on what makes it different from the family dinner: the potluck that produced four mac and cheeses, the folding chairs, the tiny oven, the dog someone brought. Tag the host and your friends in the photo, since a carousel of everyone's dish is half the fun.
How do I write a grateful caption without sounding cheesy?
Be specific. “Grateful for my family” could be anyone's caption; “grateful for a sister who saved me a plate” could only be yours. Name a person, a moment or a small ordinary thing, and skip the list of big words.
Should I ask before posting photos of relatives at dinner?
It's a good habit, especially with older relatives, teenagers and other people's children. Plenty of people don't mind a group photo but would rather not be posted mid-bite. A quick “OK if this one goes up?” at the table saves an awkward message later.

My turkey timeline worked back from dinner time: when to start thawing for your bird's weight, when it goes in, how long it rests and when to carve.
DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.
