Tips before you post

  1. Ask before a hard launch. Some people want to tell family first, and some don't want their face on a public account at all. A Story shared to your Close Friends list is a gentler first step.

  2. For a soft launch, let one detail do the hinting: two glasses, a hand on the table, a reflection in a shop window, a second pair of shoes. Keep the face out and the clue in.

  3. Invite your partner as a collaborator when you share the post. It then shows on both profiles with one set of likes and comments, instead of two copies competing with each other.

  4. Arm's-length selfies crop out where you are. Lean the phone on something steady, set the self-timer and step back so the place gets into the photo too.

  5. If things end, you can archive a post instead of deleting it. Archived posts disappear from your profile but keep their likes and comments, and you can bring them back later.

What is a soft launch on Instagram?

It's hinting at a new relationship without showing who it is: a hand in the frame, two drinks, a shadow, a jacket on a chair. The hard launch comes later, when you post a photo with their face and usually tag them. Some couples skip the soft launch entirely.

What should I caption a photo with my partner?

One detail from the moment or from the two of you: the snack you always share, the argument over directions, the hoodie that changed owners. Inside jokes work if strangers can still follow along; if they can't, add a few words of context.

How do I post one couple photo on both our profiles?

Use a collab post. When you tag people, invite your partner as a collaborator. Once they accept, the post appears on both profiles and shares one set of likes and comments; until then it shows on yours only.

What happens to couple posts if we break up?

Nothing, unless you change them. You can archive a post so it disappears from your profile without being lost, delete it, or remove yourself from a photo you were tagged in on their account. Plenty of people archive first and decide later.
