Tips before you post
Hold the key photo until after you have completed. Showing the keys before the legal handover can be awkward if something falls through.
Do not post your full house number or a clear shot of the street sign. The doorway and the view from the window say plenty without handing out the address.
Take the empty-room photo on day one. In a month the room will be full, and the before and after is the most-saved kind of carousel for a move.
Shoot in the morning light and open every blind. Rooms look bigger and cleaner, and you can fix the clutter by cropping.
If you are renting and have been told not to alter the walls, check what the tenancy allows before you post a big paint or drill project.
Tag the removal firm, the painter or the shop where the rug came from. They often reshare, and it helps friends who are moving next.
Questions people ask
What should I write in a new home caption?
Name one real detail: the key, the empty room, the first meal on the floor or the wall you painted. A caption tied to one small moment reads better than a general line about being a homeowner.
Is it safe to post my new address on Instagram?
It is better not to. Leave out the house number, the street sign and any parcel labels in the photo. A hallway, a window view or a doormat shows the new place without telling strangers where you live.
Can I use these captions if I am renting?
Yes. Many are about boxes, empty rooms, the first night and the first dinner, which are the same whether you rent or own. Pick the ones that do not mention a mortgage.
When should I post the new house photo?
Most people post the key photo on the day, then the empty rooms and the decorating over the next weeks. If you want to wait until you are settled, a reveal after the first month works well.
