Tips before you post

  1. Shoot the sky before it is fully dark. A faint blue sky behind the fireworks gives the photo depth, and fully black frames look flat and noisy on a phone.

  2. For sparkler photos, ask the person to draw slowly and use a long exposure or night mode on a steady surface. Fast waving gives a messy blur instead of a name.

  3. Photograph the grill, the flags and the table before people arrive. By the time the food is out, the table is crowded and the light has gone orange.

  4. Check your local rules before posting a home fireworks shot. Many places restrict or ban consumer fireworks, and a public photo can invite replies about it.

  5. Do not tag where you are on the day if the house will be empty for the evening. A post the next morning shows the same fun without announcing an empty home.

  6. A business can post opening hours for the holiday. Many shops and restaurants close or shorten their day, and customers will check Instagram before calling.

Turn comments into DMs

Ask people to comment COOKOUT

End your caption with a line like this:

“Comment COOKOUT and I'll send it to you in a DM.”

What they get

my cookout planner: how much food per guest, a grill timing sheet and a shopping list for twenty people.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What should I write in a Fourth of July caption?

Pick one real detail: the grill, the sparkler, the lake or the parade. A caption about the burnt burger or the dog under the bed is funnier and more personal than a general line about the holiday.

When should I post Fourth of July photos?

Many people post a daytime cookout or lake photo during the day and a fireworks Story at night. A carousel the next morning works well, with the best five or six photos from the whole day.

How do I get a good fireworks photo on my phone?

Use night mode, hold still or lean on something solid, and start just as the sky begins to fade. Zoom in later rather than before the shot, and try a short video then take a still from it.

Are these captions only for the United States?

The Fourth of July is the American Independence Day, so the captions mention cookouts, parades and fireworks. Several, such as the lake day and sunburn ones, work for any summer holiday.
