Tips before you post
Check with your employer or HR before posting. Some companies want to announce new hires first, and a start date posted early can be awkward if the paperwork is not finished.
A photo of a laptop screen or a desk can leak client names and internal tools. Blur or crop anything that is not yours to show.
Thank people by name in the caption or the comments. A short line for the person who referred you does more than a general thank you.
If you are promoted, share what you will be doing now, not only the title. Titles differ between firms, and a friend outside your industry will not know what senior associate means.
Wait a few days after leaving a job before you post about it. Posting a goodbye while still on the old payroll is awkward, and a calm tone reads better than a rant.
Do not tag an employer who has not agreed to be tagged. A personal story reads better than a company-pushed one.
Questions people ask
When should I announce a new job on Instagram?
Wait until you have signed the contract and your employer is happy for you to share it. Many people post on the first day. If you want to thank your old team, do it after you have left.
What should I write when I get promoted?
Say what the new role involves, who helped you get there and one thing you are looking forward to. A line with a real detail from the job reads better than a bare list of congratulations.
Is it fine to post about a new job on a personal account?
Yes, but think about who follows you. If your boss, clients or recruiters can see it, keep the tone calm and leave out salary, internal projects and anything confidential.
Can I use these captions on LinkedIn too?
Some will work, but LinkedIn readers usually expect a more formal tone. The announcement and promotion groups here suit LinkedIn best, while the funny ones suit Instagram.
