Tips before you post
Photograph the details that only swimmers recognise: the lane line, goggle marks, a wet towel on a bench. They get more saves and replies than a posed pool shot.
Most pools ban or limit phones on the deck and in changing areas. Ask staff first, and never film other swimmers or children without their parents saying yes.
For open water, post the cold-water shot after you are safely out. Tag the lake or club, and mention if you swim with a group so others can find them.
Race photos work best with the result in the caption: the distance, the time or the place. Specific numbers tell people why you are proud.
A before-and-after pair, such as dry hair beside wet hair, gets people laughing and commenting. Keep the caption short and let the faces do the work.
Questions people ask
What is a good short caption for a swimming photo?
Keep it to a few words that name the moment, such as the early lane, a goggle mark or the first cold dip. Something like “Lane two, six a.m.” works because it is specific and easy to read at a glance.
Can I post photos from inside a public pool?
Check the pool’s rules first. Many pools restrict phones on the deck or in changing areas. Photograph only yourself and people who have agreed, and be extra careful with children in the background.
Should I add a location tag to open water swims?
You can, but think about it. Tagging a well-known spot can bring crowds, and some places have safety rules or seasonal hazards. Tagging a club or group is often kinder than tagging an exact bank.
How do I write a caption for a race or personal best?
Lead with the real number: the distance, the time you cut or the lap you finally managed. Then add one line of feeling. Readers connect with the effort when the result is clear.
