Tips before you post

  1. Show the route, not just your face. A shot of the road ahead, a bridge or a muddy trail path says more than a selfie taken in the middle of a stride.

  2. If you share a map or a time, think about where you start and finish. Many runners blur or skip the part of the route near their home and keep a repeated schedule off the public feed.

  3. Post a before-and-after of the same spot: the starting line at dawn and your sweaty cool-down there an hour later.

  4. Pair a hard-won race caption with a close-up of the medal or the bib. A tight detail photo looks good and is easy to copy a caption under.

  5. For slow runs and comebacks, say the real number in the caption. A truthful ‘4.2 km, very slow’ gets warmer replies than a vague boast.

  6. Tag the event or running club if you were part of one. Organisers often reshare finish-line photos from runners who tag them.

Questions people ask

What is a good short caption for a run?

Slow miles are still miles suits a beginner or a recovery jog, and Sunrise splits are the best splits fits an early start. Short lines work best when the photo shows the route, your shoes or the finish line.

What should I write when I finish my first race?

Be specific about what happened: how nervous you were, what the crowd did, what you ate afterwards. Official time can sit at the end of the caption, or you can leave it out and let the medal photo carry the story.

How do I caption a slow or bad run without sounding negative?

Say what you did rather than apologising for the pace. Lines like Back of the pack and still in the race or Walk breaks are allowed read as honest and a bit funny, which people respond to more than humble-bragging.

Is it safe to post my running route?

Posting a route in real time tells strangers where you are and when you will be home. Many runners post after the run, and skip or crop the part of the map near their front door.
