Tips before you post

  1. Tag everyone in the photo, not only the person you like best. Friends notice who's missing from a tag list, and tagging puts the post in front of their followers too.

  2. Take group photos at the start of the meet-up, not the end. People are fresher, hair is tidy and nobody has left yet.

  3. Use the timer or burst mode and take at least five frames. Someone always blinks in the first three.

  4. Ask before posting a photo where a friend looks tired, drunk or in a bad mood. Most people don't mind, but the ones who do remember.

  5. A carousel works well for a long evening: start with the best group photo, then the food, then a candid shot or two. Keep the funniest as the last slide.

  6. If the post is about a friend who's having a hard time, check with them first. Being supportive in public is nice only if they want it public.

Turn comments into DMs

Ask people to comment CREW

End your caption with a line like this:

“Comment CREW and I'll send it to you in a DM.”

What they get

My group trip planner: a shared budget sheet, a packing list and a vote-for-the-activity poll to send to your friends.

DMFast answers each comment and sends the DM for you. The first message asks them to reply, then the link follows, because Instagram allows no links in that first message.

Questions people ask

What should I write under a photo with my friends?

Pick one real detail from the day: the restaurant, the running joke, the place you travelled to meet. A short line usually works better than a long one for group photos, because people scan for their own face first and the caption second.

How do I caption a group photo without a joke?

Say what the occasion was and how it felt. For example, mention the reunion, the move, or the first time everyone was in the same city in a year. A plain sentence is warm enough. Fancy wording isn't needed.

Should I tag all my friends in the photo?

Tag the people who appear in it. If you tag by hand, Instagram sends them a notification. Ask first if someone keeps their account private or doesn't like to be tagged in public photos.

How can I write a caption for a friend who lives far away?

Mention the distance and the reunion together: how far you travelled, how long since the last visit, what you did first. These details do more than saying how much you missed them.

Is it okay to post an embarrassing photo of a friend?

Ask before you do. A photo that seems funny to you can be upsetting to them, and a Story that disappears after 24 hours is a safer place for a joke photo than a permanent post.
