This or that questions for Instagram Stories

This or that gives followers two options and asks them to pick one: sunrise or sunset, cats or dogs. On a Story, put each pair in a Poll sticker, or post a grid of pairs that people screenshot, mark with the pen tool and share on their own Story. Below are 93 pairs by topic, from easy warm-ups to choices that split a room.

Tips for using these ideas

  1. Keep a run to six or eight pairs, one per frame, and save the closest split for a final frame: “52% picked sunset. Sunrise people, explain yourselves.” That frame gives the losing side a reason to reply.

  2. For the template version, make a 1080 × 1920 image with 8 to 12 pairs and space around each word for circling. Add the Add Yours sticker so everyone who plays posts into one chain, where their friends can find the template too.

  3. Read the split, not only the total. A pair that lands near 50/50 divides your audience and is worth a follow-up post; one that lands at 95/5 tells you what they already agree on.

  4. On a shop or creator account, only ask what you’ll act on, then say what happened: “Gift wrap won, so it’s now an option at checkout.” A vote that changes nothing makes the next one feel pointless.

  5. Your viewer list shows who picked what. Use it lightly: telling a voter “fellow waffle person, respect” is friendly; quoting someone’s vote back at them in public isn’t.

  6. Leave out pairs that rank people or bodies, and politics, unless that is what your account is about. The point is a choice anyone can make in a second without worrying about who sees it.

Questions people ask

How do I post a this or that on my Instagram Story?

Add a photo or a plain colour, tap the sticker icon and choose Poll. Type a question such as “Pick one”, then replace the default Yes and No with your two options. Post one pair per frame, or share a template of pairs and let people mark their picks.

What is a this or that template?

An image with a list of pairs. People screenshot it, circle their picks or cross out the others with the pen tool, and post it on their own Story, often tagging the account they got it from or passing it on with the Add Yours sticker.

How many options can an Instagram poll have?

A Poll sticker can hold up to four options. This or that works best with two, though: the forced choice is the fun, and a single tap keeps people moving through your frames.

Can people see how I voted?

The account that posted the poll can, because votes show beside each name in its Story viewer list. Other viewers only see the overall percentages once they have voted.

What are good this or that questions for couples?

Pairs about shared plans and small habits work best, such as surprise trip or planned trip and dinner out or cooking together. Answer separately, post both results, and compare where you match.
