Facebook engagement posts people want to answer

Facebook posts that get real comments ask about the reader: a memory, their town, a small opinion, a photo already on their phone. Here are 81 ideas for Pages, groups and profiles, sorted by the reply they invite. None of them use “Comment YES” or “Like for this, Love for that”, the engagement bait Facebook shows to fewer people.

Polls, where Facebook has them · 6

Tips for using these ideas

  1. Leave out “Comment YES if…”, “Like for this, Love for that”, “Tag someone who…” and “Share if you agree”. Meta calls this engagement bait, shows it to fewer people in Feed, and demotes Pages that keep posting it.

  2. Ask about the reader, in one line, with an answer they already know. “What did your family eat on Sundays?” takes ten seconds to answer; “What do you think about food culture?” asks for an essay and gets scrolled past.

  3. Put the question in the first line. Facebook cuts long posts off behind “See more”, so an ask buried under three sentences of setup is one most people never reach.

  4. In your Page’s insights, compare comments and shares per post rather than reactions, and note which posts drew long answers. A topic that gets paragraphs is one to come back to.

  5. One question in every three or four posts is plenty. A Page that asks for something every day starts to feel like homework, and its questions lose their pull.

  6. Photo replies need a subject people already have on their phone: a pet, a garden, a bake. Asking them to go out and take a new photo is a much bigger ask.

Questions people ask

What is engagement bait on Facebook?

Posts that ask people to react, comment, share, tag or vote only to push the post further, such as “Comment YES if you love Fridays” or “Like for coffee, Love for tea”. Meta reduces how many people see these in Feed and demotes Pages that post them repeatedly. Posts that ask for real help, such as travel tips or money for a cause, aren’t the target.

Can I make a poll on my Facebook Page?

Not as a regular Page post at the time of writing. Facebook offers polls in groups, as a Poll post, and in Stories, as a Poll sticker whose Yes and No labels you can rename. On a Page, run the poll in your Story, or ask an open question in a post and reply to the answers.

What kind of Facebook posts get the most comments?

Posts that ask people about their own lives and places, where any answer is a good one: a memory, a local tip, a small opinion, a photo already on their phone. Questions that need research or a strong stance get fewer replies, and posts that only ask for reactions are shown to fewer people.

Should a Page reply to every comment?

On a small or local Page, reply to as many as you can, ideally with a question back or a detail of your own. It keeps the thread going, and people notice a Page that answers. On a busy Page, reply to the most interesting answers so later readers see a conversation.

Can I send a private message to someone who commented?

Yes. A Page can send one private reply to each comment through Messenger, within 7 days of the comment. If the person writes back, the Page can keep replying within 24 hours of each of their messages. Tools such as DMFast can send that first private reply automatically.

Do these ideas work in Facebook groups?

Yes, and groups add a built-in Poll post and members who often know one another. Swap “our shop” for the group’s topic, and let members answer each other rather than waiting for an admin to reply.
