Questions to ask on your Instagram Story

Paste any of these into the Questions sticker on your Story. Answers reach only you, and if you share one as a new Story, Instagram leaves off the sender’s name and photo. Tips for using these ideas

  1. Put your own answer on the frame beside the sticker. “Mine: cold pizza” under a dinner question shows how short a reply can be and makes answering feel easy.

  2. Share answers back the same day. Each one becomes a new Story with the question on a card, which tells everyone their reply might be seen. Instagram hides who sent it, so tag the sender only if they’re happy to be named.

  3. Judge a question by answers per viewer. Twelve answers from 150 viewers is a better result than twelve from 900, and that rate tells you which kind of question to ask again.

  4. Ask one question a day at most, and only on days you can answer back. A sticker full of replies that never get a response teaches people that answering goes nowhere.

  5. Don’t ask for anything you wouldn’t want shared: home addresses, children’s ages, daily routines. Once you share an answer, anyone who sees it can screenshot it.

  6. Keep a note of the good answers. A month of replies to “what should I explain?” is a ready-made list of posts, in your followers’ own words.

Questions people ask

How do I add a question to my Instagram Story?

Start a Story with a photo, a video or a plain background, tap the sticker icon at the top and choose Questions. Type your question over the default prompt, place the sticker, then share. Answers appear when you swipe up on that Story.

Are answers to Story questions anonymous?

Not to you. Swipe up on your Story and you’ll see each answer with the account that sent it, above your viewer list. Nobody else sees who answered, and when you share a response, Instagram leaves off the sender’s name and photo.

How do I share an answer on my Story?

Swipe up on the Story, tap the answer and choose to share it. Instagram opens a new Story with the question and the answer on a card. Add your reply as text, or record a short video answering it, then post.

Should I use the Questions sticker or just ask in text?

A question written as plain text gets answers through the reply box, so each one lands in your DMs as a private chat. The Questions sticker collects answers in one list on the Story, ready to share back. Use text to start conversations and the sticker to gather answers.

Which questions get the most answers?

Ones people can answer from their own life in a few words: a recommendation, a guess, a small opinion, what’s on their plate. Big open questions draw fewer replies but longer ones, which suits a night when you have time to read them.
