  7. A sauce photo: “Mild” or “Hot”, to settle what goes in the next batch.
  8. A photo of the display table: “Neat” or “Messy”, with the loser’s version tomorrow.
  9. A drink in a new glass: “Keep” or “Return”, a poll about something you can still change.

  7. “Which opening time would help most? Earlier, later on Thursdays or Sundays.”
  8. “Would £12, £15 or £18 feel fair for the large size?” asked only after the price is still open.

On a Page, where there is no poll post · 8

  1. Two photos in one post and “Which would you pick?”, with people answering “left” or “right” in a comment.
  2. A numbered list of options in the post and a request to “reply with just the number”.
  3. A sentence to finish, such as “The best thing on the menu is…”, rather than a choice from a list.
  4. Run the poll in your Story, then share the result as a post the next day.
  5. Move a recurring poll to a customer group you run, where the Poll post exists.
  6. Ask people to message the Page with “A” or “B”, answered automatically with a thank-you.
  7. Ask for one word about a product, then count the answers and post the top three.
  8. Post the result a week later with what you did about it, which is also the best reminder that votes count.

Light and fun · 8

  1. Biscuit in the tea: dunk or no dunk?
  2. Which decade had the best music? Options are one decade each.
  3. Window seat or aisle, every time?
  4. Which season gets your vote: spring, summer, autumn or winter?
  5. Lights on or off during a film?
  6. Fish and chips: salt and vinegar, ketchup, or curry sauce?
  7. Biggest small annoyance: slow walkers, loud chewing, or phone speakers on the bus?
  8. Dog, cat, or whatever sleeps on the sofa?

Tips for using these ideas

  1. Check where polls exist before you plan around one. In groups, admins can allow polls and choose whether people can pick several answers or add their own options. On a Page, a regular post poll isn’t available at the time of writing, so use Stories or a group.

  2. Keep it to two to four options. More than that and people skip, because each extra choice is another thing to read. If your list is long, ask for an extra option in the comments instead.

  3. Ask only what you will act on, and say so. “The most votes decides the date” gets more answers than a poll that looks like a survey with nothing at stake.

  4. Report the result and what you did. A follow-up post or Story, one line long, is what makes people vote on the next poll.

  5. Avoid copying poll-style engagement bait into a post, such as “Like for A, Love for B”. Meta treats that as engagement bait and shows it to fewer people.

Questions people ask

Can I make a poll on my Facebook Page?

Not as a regular Page post at the time of writing. Facebook offers a Poll post in groups, a Poll sticker in Stories and polls in Messenger group chats. On a Page, run it in a Story or use a customer group.

How do I make a poll in a Facebook group?

In the group, start a new post, open the extra options and choose Poll, then write the question and the answers. Admins can allow polls, and settings let people pick several answers or add their own. Menus differ between phone and desktop.

Can I change the answers on a Story poll?

Yes. The Poll sticker starts with Yes and No, and you can tap either side to type your own words. Keep them short enough to read at a glance, and put the sticker where the app’s buttons won’t cover it.

How do I make a poll in Messenger?

Open a group chat, tap the plus or more icon and choose Create a poll, then add your question and options. Polls are meant for planning, such as choosing a time or a place. They are for group chats, not one-to-one messages.

Should I use a poll or an open question?

Use a poll when you need a decision from a short list. Use an open question when you want stories or ideas. In a group, a poll can finish with “anything else?” in the comments to collect both.
